The post holder will be expected to develop, manage and lead the efficient and effective delivery of the Be U North Yorkshire Assessment Service for children/young people on the autism assessment pathway. The post holder will also be required to support the development of other additional local ABL Health projects to facilitate the evolution of the BE U NY service and meeting the wider needs of the local community.

Main duties of the job

  • As a Team Leader, you will be responsible for leading and developing a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, person-centred support to children, young people and adults, ensuring the service remains safe, effective and responsive.
  • You will oversee the day-to-day operational management of the service, including allocating referrals and assessments, monitoring caseloads, leading team meetings, and supervising staff through regular one-to-one meetings, performance reviews and coaching.
  • Working collaboratively with families, schools and partner agencies, you will build strong relationships, provide expert guidance, and ensure service users receive the highest standard of care and support.
  • You will play a key role in recruitment, service development, quality assurance, safeguarding, risk management, performance monitoring and continuous improvement, ensuring compliance with organisational policies, contractual requirements and regulatory standards.
  • The role also involves managing budgets, supporting audits, analysing service performance data, responding proactively to risks and complaints, sharing best practice with stakeholders, and contributing to the successful implementation of new projects and service initiatives, while promoting a culture of excellence, collaboration and continuous learning.

Job responsibilities

  • Ensure the highest quality and standards of support is provided to children and young people/adults, their families, and a range of other professionals, enabling the child/young person to access the service.
  • Drive continual service improvement ensuring contemporary best practice is maintained and contract added value initiatives delivered.
  • Supervise and manage the Be U team via monthly 1:1 and annual performance reviews.
  • Provide guidance and direct coaching.
  • Have a key role in the recruitment of staff to the service.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the team, including allocating assessments, leading meetings and ensuring an exceptional service is delivered.
  • Take an active role in the reviewing, monitoring and prioritisation of referrals alongside other team members.
  • Have an input in the design implementation of the post intervention monitoring and support elements of the service, for each individual client.
  • Present fair, balanced feedback/support to staff and family members. Recognise and challenge areas of poor practice and institutionalised culture.
  • Ensure that all service delivery is reviewed for each young person on a frequent basis.
  • Ensure that the service works in partnership with the young person and all of those who are important to them including their family and friends, carers, and other professionals and actively include these people in conducting reviews.
  • Work closely with other stakeholders such as schools including delivering direct support and guidance to staff.
  • Disseminate learning from the service to enable other stakeholders to benefit from the service, through building case studies and utilising feedback.
  • Ensure that all ABL policies and procedures are understood and implemented by staff, to include quality assurance, regulatory, risk frameworks, safeguarding, child protection, criminal records, data protection, HR and health and safety.
  • Ensure all relevant records in relation to the young people accessing the service, and employees are appropriately maintained and up to date and compiled and delivered as required for/to relevant authorities.
  • Identify potential problems, acting proactively to avoid service breakdowns, deal with complaints and to mitigate all types of risk through liaising with parents/families and other professionals.
  • Prepare and support data led monthly performance monitoring feedback to the Associate Director and ABL Executive Directors (Performance Review Boards).
  • Work flexibly and adapt to suit the service need.
  • Ensure the service operates within the set budget.
  • Support routine quality auditing processes.
  • Engage and foster positive working relationships with stakeholders and system partners.
  • Directly contribute operationally to the success of new projects and service initiatives in the locality.

Person Specification

  • Minimum of 2 years management experience, in an operational role.
  • Experience of health and social care/support delivery.
  • Experience of service management.
  • Experience of delivering complex needs services to children and young people.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary working.
  • Ability to work effectively within safeguarding procedures.
  • Competent at processing/interpreting service data and responding to identified needs through SMART action planning.
  • Experience of being a CQC registered manager.
  • Skills in providing consultation/training to other professional and non-professional groups.

Qualifications

  • Willing to travel to support own development and organisational needs when required.
