Working as a Healthy Lifestyle Advisor within ABL's One You Kent Service, this role brings together evidence-based weight management with broader lifestyle behaviour change support. You will work with adults supporting them to lose weight, get more active, improve their mental health and set goals to make lasting change. Additionally, the HLA will deliver healthy diet and cooking programmes, 1:1 health coaching, and weight management groups. This also includes supporting people to improve their motivation and achieve lifestyle goals if they are not ready or motivated for weight management groups.
Embedded within a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver holistic, person-centred interventions in community and digital settings, supporting individuals to achieve long-term improvements in their health and wellbeing through practical, realistic and evidence-based approaches.
Main duties of the jobThe role delivers adult weight management programmes across community and digital settings, providing evidence-based support in nutrition, behaviour change, and physical activity to help clients achieve sustainable lifestyle improvements. It uses a client-centred approach, incorporating motivational interviewing, positive psychology, and SMART goal setting, alongside 1:1 health coaching, group sessions, and ongoing progress monitoring in line with NICE guidance.
The post holder works within a multidisciplinary team to contribute to assessments and care planning, and supports service development through co-producing materials, contributing to quality improvement, and submitting case studies for reporting. They also play an active role in community engagement and partnership working to promote services, support referrals, and engage potential clients.
In addition, the role ensures accurate record keeping, effective workload management, and compliance with organisational policies and governance standards, while contributing to staff development and completing ongoing training. The post holder is also required to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and travel across the project area as needed.

Job responsibilitiesThe role of Healthy Lifestyle Advisor within ABL's One You Kent Service delivers evidence-based weight management and wider lifestyle behaviour change support to adults, helping individuals improve weight, physical activity, mental wellbeing, and overall health outcomes. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the post holder provides holistic, person-centred interventions across community and digital settings, including weight management programmes, 1:1 health coaching, and healthy eating and cookery sessions, while also supporting clients who may not yet be ready to engage in structured programmes.
The role uses a client-centred, evidence-based approach incorporating motivational interviewing, positive psychology, and SMART goal setting, with ongoing monitoring of progress and tailored support in line with NICE guidance. It contributes to multidisciplinary assessments and care planning, participates in MDT meetings, and supports service development, quality improvement, and co-production of programme materials.
In addition, the post holder is responsible for maintaining accurate records, meeting data requirements, and ensuring compliance with organisational policies and governance standards. The role also involves active community engagement, partnership working, promotion of services, and contribution to staff training and development, alongside flexible working across the project area including evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
Person SpecificationQualifications:
- Educated to degree level or relevant equivalent experience
- CIMSPA (previously REPS) qualified Level 2 Gym instructor/Group exercise award or equivalent (or willing to work towards)
- Sports Coaching qualification
- Degree in nutrition and/or eligible to be registered as an associate or full member of the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists/ or degree in exercise, psychology, public health, other health related field
Job Specific Requirements:
- The ability to travel independently across the organisational footprint
- Work flexibly and adapt to suit service need including evening and weekend work as required
- Must be willing to undertake an Enhanced DBS check
Experience:
- Experience of delivering groups and/or one-to-one behaviour change to adults
- Experience of delivering health promotion / public health interventions in community settings
- Experience working with hard-to-reach groups and tackling health inequalities
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
- Previous paid or voluntary experience working with people
- Experience of delivering groups and/or one-to-one specialist weight management interventions to children, young people and adults
- Experience of planning and delivering appropriate health interventions specific to individual requirements
- Experience of delivering health/weight interventions to children and young people
