The role
As a Senior Land Management Officer, you'll take the lead on sustainable land management across the stunning landscapes of Anglesey, Conwy, and North Gwynedd. You'll oversee key sites on the Welsh Government Woodland Estate and National Nature Reserves, managing our legal liabilities, undertaking vital conservation work and ecological planning. This is a hands-on, varied role where no two days are the same - from carrying out tree safety surveys along public highways, giving technical input on conservation and heritage constraints for felling operations, to advising on habitat restoration. In this customer facing role you will engage with local communities, and leading contracts to manage the land in our care and protect our natural heritage. You'll be the go-to expert for your patch, working with dedicated technical officers and a supportive team leader to deliver on-the-ground results that align with national priorities. You will be contracted to the NRW office at the above location and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance. Interviews will take place on Microsoft Teams. Successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) check. Appointments are normally made within 4 to 8 weeks of the closing date.
What you will do
- Be the technical lead in your area, supporting the development of the team.
- Provide technical support in the creation and delivery of wider work plans.
- Where appropriate act as NRW lead for specific technical issues.
- Participate in NRW technical/strategic groups or represent NRW on external forums.
- Interact with other specialists in NRW to promote consistent industry best practice.
- Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.
- Be committed to Natural Resources Wales Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy, together with an understanding of how it operates within the responsibilities of the post.
- Be committed to your own development through the effective use of your personal development plan (known as Sgwrs).
- Any other reasonable duties requested commensurate with the grade of this role.

Your Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge And Skills
In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method.
- Experience of working across a wide range of land management disciplines.
- Extensive knowledge and experience of conservation management, designated sites, and all aspects of forest practise, including land liabilities.
- Knowledge of sustainable forest management, UKWAS and forest certification schemes.
- Coaching and mentoring skills.
- Experience of community liaison and public engagement activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with regulated business and the public, explaining complex issues and gaining support by influencing.
Welsh Language Level Requirements
Essential: B2 - Upper Intermediate Level (able to understand and discuss familiar work related matters)
