Abingdon School has an exciting opportunity for a Porter to join the team.

Location: Abingdon School, OX14 1DE

Job Type: Part- Time, Permanent

Hours of Work: 24 hours per week term time plus

Work Pattern: 07.30 – 16.00 on Thursday, Friday, Saturday (3 days per week)

Salary: £14,941 per annum

About Us:

Abingdon School is a leading independent day and boarding school with more than 1,000 pupils aged 11-18. The School is situated in 35 acres of beautiful grounds in the centre of Abingdon, just south of Oxford.

Porter – The Role:

This is a term time plus role working as part of a team, ensuring the smooth running of the school estate and supporting internal and external events. The Abingdon Foundation sites include Abingdon School, Abingdon Prep School, Tilsley Park and the Boathouse.

Porter – Key Responsibilities:

– To open and secure buildings

– To perform portering duties as operational needs demand. To carry out car park marshalling in support of events

– To take responsibility for the security of the school whilst on duty, ensuring all doors, windows and skylights are locked and reporting any incidents or failings to the head porter

– To support functions and external lettings, acting as a point of contact for staff, pupils, parents and visitors and assisting where necessary with the setting up of rooms and signage

– To be part of the emergency response team

– To escort contractors ensuring all safeguarding procedures are adhered to at all times whilst on duty

Porter – You:

– Excellent customer service and a helpful, flexible approach

– Good communication skills

– Ability to meet the physical demands of the job

– Ability to work under pressure in a professional and approachable manner Conscientious and reliable with the ability to manage/prioritise own workload

– Full driving licence (a maximum of 3 penalty points permitted) as the postholder will be required to drive a school vehicle (buggy or van) in this role
