About Us: The Foundation comprises two schools: Abingdon School and Abingdon Prep School, as well as Abingdon School Enterprises. Abingdon School is a leading independent day and boarding school with more than 1,000 pupils aged 11-18. Currently a boys school, it will become co-educational from September 2026. Abingdon Prep School is a vibrant and warm day preparatory school with around 200 pupils aged 4-13 which has been co-educational since last year. Both Schools are situated in beautiful and extensive grounds, with the senior school in the heart of Abingdon on Thames, just south of Oxford, and the Prep School located a few miles away in nearby Frilford.

Swimming Assistant - The Role: As a Swimming Assistant, you will support qualified Level 2 Swimming Teachers in delivering high-quality swim lessons to children under their direct supervision. You will work within the Swim England Learn to Swim framework, helping swimmers achieve their maximum potential while maintaining professional standards and excellent customer service. You will report to the Sports Centre Manager and be part of a dedicated swim school team.

Swimming Assistant - Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Level 2 qualified teachers in delivering swim lessons to our high standards
  • Build positive relationships with children and help them achieve their swimming goals
  • Create a safe and fun pool environment for all members, including parents and guardians
  • Communicate effectively with Swimming Teachers, other Assistants and Administration Team members
  • Assist with recording lesson progress, tracking attendance and member improvement
  • Set up and put away equipment needed for lessons
  • Respond to individual swimmers' needs and communicate with the Swimming Teacher
  • Act professionally and courteously with all members and staff
  • Support improvements to swim school processes and services

Swimming Assistant - You:

  • STA Level 1 or SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant qualification
  • Self-motivated with ability to encourage learners through patience and positive outlook
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions to required standards
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and child safeguarding
  • Previous experience of teaching swimming or working with children is beneficial
