About Us:
Abingdon School is a leading independent day and boarding school with around 1000 pupils aged 11-18. The School is situated in 35 acres of beautiful grounds in the centre of Abingdon, just south of Oxford.
The Role:
Abingdon School is looking to appoint an organised and friendly individual to assist with daily operations in one of the boarding houses on Saturdays during term time between 08:00 and 17:30 from September 2025. Assistant Boarding House Managers work closely with a wide range of stakeholders including students, parents, teachers, maintenance, catering and the Head of the Boarding House and the week-time Boarding House Managers.
Key Responsibilities:
- To be responsible for pupils' welfare, supervision, health, cleanliness and appearance, liaising with other staff as appropriate.
- To maintain a supervisory presence in the house on a Saturday from 8am to 5.30pm to ensure the school is fulfilling its duty of care.
- To assist in managing the daily running of the House on Saturdays, including oversight of the various routines and procedures, and completing various administrative duties.
- To ensure a clean and pleasant environment in the House when on duty.
- To undertake inspections of pupils' rooms and common areas, focusing on cleanliness, health and safety concerns and maintenance issues.

- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise own workload.
- To be flexible and adapt to differing situations effectively.
- The ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.
- To be calm, patient, discreet and tactful.
- Competent user of IT (Google Docs/Sheets, Email).
