About the role
We're supporting a respected professional regulator with the appointment of an Advocate to join its in house legal and regulatory team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced regulatory lawyer or advocate to take responsibility for the preparation and presentation of complex fitness to practise and professional disciplinary cases within a public protection environment. Working closely with investigation and casework teams, you'll provide legal advice throughout the regulatory process, ensure cases are prepared to a high standard and represent the organisation before regulatory panels and tribunals.
Key responsibilities:
- Preparing and presenting fitness to practise and professional disciplinary cases before regulatory panels and tribunals.
- Preparing complex cases for hearings, including drafting allegations, legal submissions, applications and other key legal documents.
- Reviewing evidence, case bundles and investigation material and providing advice on case strategy.
- Advising investigation and casework teams on risk, evidence, proportionality and appropriate lines of enquiry.
- Providing advice on interim measures and other applications required during the regulatory process.
- Supporting the effective assessment, investigation and progression of complex regulatory cases.
- Providing legal advice and guidance to investigators, caseworkers and operational colleagues.
- Working closely with witnesses, legal representatives, regulated professionals and other external stakeholders.
- Delivering training and supporting the development of colleagues involved in investigation and casework.
- Keeping up to date with relevant legislation, regulatory developments and case law.
- Contributing to the development of regulatory processes, guidance and continuous improvement initiatives.
About you
- You'll be a qualified legal professional with strong experience in advocacy, regulatory casework or professional discipline and the ability to manage complex matters from investigation through to hearing.
- Experience within healthcare regulation or another professional regulatory environment would be particularly advantageous.
You'll also bring:
- Qualification as a Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive.
- Strong advocacy and hearing preparation experience.
- Experience preparing and presenting complex regulatory, disciplinary or fitness to practise cases.
- Experience managing or providing legal direction on complex investigations.
- Excellent legal analysis, drafting and written communication skills.
- The ability to interpret and apply legislation, rules and regulatory frameworks.
- Strong judgement and the ability to provide clear, practical legal advice.
- The ability to manage a varied caseload and competing priorities with minimal supervision.
- Confidence communicating with legally qualified and non legally qualified stakeholders.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to support and develop more junior colleagues.
