About the role:
We're supporting a professional regulator with the appointment of a Senior Lawyer to join its Fitness to Practise function. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced regulatory lawyer to play a pivotal role in supporting legally robust and proportionate decision making across complex Fitness to Practise matters. Working closely with operational leaders, you'll provide expert legal advice throughout the triage and investigations process while helping to shape policy, improve processes and support the development of colleagues across the organisation.
Key responsibilities:
- Providing expert legal advice on complex Fitness to Practise cases throughout triage and investigations.
- Supporting legally robust, proportionate and evidence based regulatory decision making.
- Working closely with operational managers to assist with case planning, progression and risk management.
- Supervising and mentoring lawyers and paralegals, including reviewing and quality assuring legal advice where appropriate.
- Providing legal support on complex investigations, hearings and other regulatory matters.
- Developing and reviewing policies, guidance and operational procedures to support effective regulation.
- Designing and delivering legal training to operational colleagues and other stakeholders.
- Supporting strategic projects aimed at improving regulatory processes and decision making.
- Building strong working relationships across legal, operational and leadership teams.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, consistency and public protection.
About you:
You'll be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with experience advising within a professional regulatory environment. You'll also bring:
- Experience advising on Fitness to Practise or professional discipline matters.
- Excellent legal judgement and strong analytical skills.
- Experience managing complex and sensitive regulatory casework.
- The ability to provide practical, solutions focused legal advice to operational colleagues.
- Experience supervising or mentoring colleagues, or a desire to develop these skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining high quality standards.
- A collaborative approach and commitment to delivering fair, proportionate and legally robust outcomes.
