Job Overview

We are currently looking for an HR Adviser to join our People & Services team at Abingdon and Witney College. As HR Adviser, you\'ll be a vital part of our People & Culture department, delivering a professional, responsive, and forward-thinking HR service across the college. You\'ll provide expert guidance to managers and staff, ensure compliance with employment legislation, and support the development of inclusive and progressive people policies. Key Responsibilities

  • Acting as a first point of contact for HR advice via our Helpdesk, ensuring timely and effective casework support
  • Advising managers and staff on a range of HR issues including absence, performance, disciplinary and grievance matters
  • Supporting recruitment and selection processes in partnership with the Recruitment team
  • Developing and updating HR policies and procedures to reflect best practices and legislative changes
  • Maintaining accurate and compliant HR records, including sensitive casework documentation
  • Working closely with payroll to ensure timely and accurate processing of pay and benefits
  • Contributing to key HR projects including diversity, inclusion, wellbeing, policy reviews and workforce planning initiatives
  • Supporting staff training and development programmes to help build a confident and capable workforce

Key Requirements

Essential:
  • Proven experience in an HR advisory or similar role
  • Up-to-date knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice
  • A proactive and solution-focused mindset
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Confidence in managing casework and advising on employee relations
  • A commitment to promoting equality, diversity and wellbeing in the workplace
Desirable:
  • Experience in an FE or HE environment
  • Knowledge of HR policies and procedures within the education sector
  • Experience in delivering HR-related training or workshops
  • CIPD qualification (or working towards it)
