Abingdon & Witney College is seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Bicycle Maintenance Tutor to deliver engaging adult education courses as part of our Oxfordshire Adult Learning programme.
Salary & Hours
- Salary: £28.62 - £37.08 per hour
- Hours per week: up to 8
- Working patterns: Friday/Saturday (09:30 – 13:30)
- Location: Oxfordshire (Kidlington, Abingdon, Headington)
- Contract type: Fixed Term Contract until September 2027
- Start date: March 2027
The Role
You will plan and deliver high‑quality bicycle maintenance sessions to adult learners, covering practical maintenance skills in a supportive, inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning and delivering engaging, skills‑based bicycle maintenance sessions
- Using a variety of teaching methods to support diverse adult learners
- Creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Assessing learner progress and providing clear feedback
- Offering tutorial and pastoral support where appropriate
- Embedding safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion into all aspects of delivery
- Supporting learners to build confidence, independence, and practical skills
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Passion for bicycle maintenance and adult education
- Degree‑level qualification or equivalent professional experience
- Teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards one
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection relevant to the role
- Level 2 (or equivalent) qualifications in literacy and numeracy
- Experience teaching or training within the subject area
- Excellent teaching and communication skills
- Ability to engage and support diverse learner groups
- Strong learner‑support and pastoral skills
- Clear commitment to learner success
Desirable
- Assessor and/or Verifier qualification.
- Experience teaching in a post‑16 or adult learning setting.
- Relevant employer or industry links.
Successful candidates will be required to complete a structured training pathway unless they already hold the relevant qualifications, including a two‑week teacher induction, the Award in Education and Training (AET) and the Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher (LST) apprenticeship. There is also the option to pursue Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at a later stage. Abingdon & Witney College are committed to diversity and uphold safeguarding responsibilities. All appointments are subject to satisfactory enhanced DBS checks and other relevant clearances. The college is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
