Job Purpose: The Digital Skills Trainer is responsible for delivering training across Telford and Shropshire to people over the age of 18 at risk of digital exclusion. This includes disabled, unemployed, and older people. Delivery will be a mix of in-person sessions and remote support (group and 1:1), working with local community partners to maximise reach and impact. The project is funded by Capgemini and delivered in association with AbilityNet.

Principal Accountabilities of the Digital Skills Trainer role:

  • Deliver essential digital skills support to local residents most at risk of digital exclusion, both remotely and face-to-face, in groups and on a 1:1 basis (daily travel required).
  • Support learners to improve their digital literacy, including: introduction to devices and basic settings; using the internet; email; using apps on Apple, Android and Windows devices; and staying safer online.
  • Motivate and reassure learners to overcome fears and barriers, building confidence with everyday technology such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and other digital devices.
  • Organise and schedule training dates, times and locations with community partners, maximising participation at group sessions.
  • Ensure registration forms and surveys are completed by attendees, so that session reach, success and impact can be tracked.
  • Collate statistics and feedback before and after sessions, including surveying community partners and individual learners.
  • Support the production of case studies to bring project stories and outcomes to life.
  • Support the recruitment, onboarding and engagement of local volunteers.
  • Undertake any other task consistent with the scope of the post, as requested by your manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:

  • Experience delivering training, coaching or presentations.
  • Strong digital literacy and IT knowledge.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good organisation and administration skills.
  • Confident user of Microsoft 365 (Office 365).
  • Able and willing to travel daily to training locations within the region.
  • Experience working with disadvantaged communities or vulnerable people.

Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 14 months

Part-time hours: 28 per week

Pay: £24,000.00 per year
