Responsibilities

The role will be responsible for student recruitment in the counties coloured in navy: Clwyd, Shropshire, Cheshire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester. The post holder would preferably be based in Cheshire but applications from candidates based within the counties coloured in navy will be considered. The post holder is expected to travel to schools and colleges across Clwyd, Shropshire, Cheshire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester with occasional travel to Aberystwyth and other areas of the UK to attend Higher Education fairs.

With excellent organisational skills and an exceptional communicator, you will be responsible for the recruitment of Undergraduate and Postgraduate students to the University. Reporting to the Partnership and Schools Liaison Manager (Outreach), you will organise and take part in recruitment and widening participation activities such as recruitment exhibitions and develop effective links with feeder institutions. These may include travelling within the UK to give talks and, often in collaboration with academic colleagues, facilitate workshops and other events on and off campus. You will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an undergraduate degree. This is a permanent post and will commence as soon as possible. A full UK driving licence is essential for this post.

What you’ll do

This job description is subject to review and amendment in the light of the changing needs of the University, to provide appropriate development opportunities and/or the addition of any other reasonable duties.

  • Support the development and management of target feeder institutions for the University through development of effective relationships by the following means:
  • Delivering presentations on subjects of interest to schools/colleges across the UK;
  • Liaising with feeder schools/colleges to develop an annual programme of activities on and off campus;
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of the University’s school/college taster days and other events.
  • Represent the University at higher education recruitment events aimed at both UG and PG students.
  • Support colleagues in Global Marketing and Student Recruitment in delivering the University\’s open days and other virtual and physical events supporting recruitment for UG and PG students.
  • Support and inform marketing campaigns targeting UG and PG students through electronic and print based media.
  • Support other initiatives to drive an increase in the number of applications to UG and PG programmes at the University.
  • Work closely with the wider Global Marketing and Student Recruitment team to provide market intelligence that can inform student recruitment activity and effective development of the University\’s CRM systems.
  • Deliver reports for the University\’s Recruitment & Marketing Board and Recruitment Action Group as required.
  • Provide central marketing support to inform the outreach and recruitment work of the University\’s academic departments.
  • Work with the Academic Support Officer in developing appropriate academic recruitment and outreach initiatives.
  • Support the development of the student recruitment strands of the University\’s Marketing Strategy.
  • Deliver Widening Participation activities on behalf of the University.
  • Take a keen interest in developing an understanding of the most recent developments within the higher education sector.
  • Be responsible for managing day-to-day workload and respond flexibly to priority projects as they arise.
  • It is essential that the post holder is willing and has the ability to work flexibly: weekend and evening work will be required plus the ability to undertake UK and limited overseas travel.
  • To undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential

  • Preferably based in Cheshire or any other appropriate location to recruit within the counties of Clwyd, Shropshire, Cheshire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester.
  • Educated to degree level.
  • Significant experience of working in a public facing role in marketing, recruitment, or sales.
  • Thorough understanding of the activities and objectives of the University.
  • Highly proficient IT skills across a broad spectrum of applications.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Significant experience and ability to work independently away from an office environment, with good time management skills, balancing both administrative and outreach tasks.
  • Excellent team-working and networking skills.
  • High level administrative and organisational skills.
  • Organised, well-structured and methodical approach to work.
  • The ability to work successfully with frequent and conflicting deadlines.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexibly: weekend and evening work will be required plus the ability to undertake UK and limited overseas travel.
  • Full valid UK Driving Licence or equivalent right to drive in the UK.
  • An ability to understand the bilingual nature of the University and an awareness of the procedures in place to support working bilingually.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in higher education marketing.
  • Experience of attending student recruitment events in the UK and EU markets.
  • Understanding of economic factors impacting on student recruitment trends.
  • Knowledge of the challenges facing recruitment to higher education in Wales.
  • Oral (spoken) and Written Welsh Level C1.
