The Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences delivers professionally relevant programmes in areas such as food and drink, biomedical science, and environmental disciplines, underpinned by research that informs policy and addresses real world challenges.

The postholder will be based in the Department of Built Environment and Life Sciences - Food Science and Nutrition Subgroup, which offers innovative degrees across civil and environmental engineering, food, nutrition and related disciplines, and maintains close partnerships with industry and external institutes.

The department has an active research culture spanning food science and technology, public health nutrition, contaminants and processing, and sustainability, supported by well equipped laboratories, pilot scale facilities and specialist analytical and sensory suites.

Staff routinely collaborate with industrial partners and research organizations, ensuring that research has practical impact and that students benefit from exposure to current scientific and technological developments.

Reporting to Professor Alberto Fiore and Dr Boon-Seang Chu, you will join this research active environment as a Research Fellow, contributing to the Horizon Europe EMERGO project on persistent and emerging pollutants in food and drink systems.

Your primary focus will be on delivering high quality analytical/experimental research, while engaging collegially with colleagues across the department and Faculty to share expertise and strengthen research–teaching linkages where appropriate (for example through occasional guest lectures, seminars or support for project-based learning).
