About the Department

The Digital Workplace Engineering team is a key capability within the Digital Workplace Services function. The team works collaboratively across the Group COO, business stakeholders, CoEs & Product Owners. It is responsible for the creation and delivery of our Digital Workplace technology roadmap, maintaining a modern, secure and cost-efficient service. We are passionate about enhancing colleague experience and delivering an evergreen service to our business.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly capable and forward-thinking Senior Engineer to help within Aberdeen\’s Digital Workplace Engineering team. This role will involve working closely with stakeholders across the business. This role is central to our digital transformation strategy, enabling scalable, secure, and innovative capabilities that support both operational efficiency and business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the end-to-end design and implementation of solutions/services; hands on engineering and design.

  • Define and uphold the standards, patterns, and policies that guide our use of M365 & Digital Workplace Services, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and regulatory expectations.

  • Responsible for acting as a key escalation point for operational incidents impacting Digital Workplace Services.

  • Work closely with engineering squads to advise on solutions, assess new platform capabilities, and ensure services are robust, maintainable, and future-ready.

  • Oversee the administration of our platforms, implementing governance and risk controls such as data loss prevention, environment strategy, and security policies.

  • Proactively assess our security posture, ensuring alignment to key industry benchmarks such as CIS.

  • Lead the technical approvals board for the Digital Workplace service function.

  • Interpret Digital Experience Monitoring (DEX) data to proactively enhance technology experiences across our services.

  • Ensuring solutions and products are supportable and serviceable by operations teams.

  • Provision of key insight into industry trends and developments, with resulting recommendations through evaluation and proving of new technology.

  • Responding to internal and external audits in relation to regulatory requirements and being able to help manage the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) controls.

  • Ensure industry best practices and methodologies are adopted where appropriate in proposed solutions.

About the Candidate

  • Exposure to industry frameworks/benchmarks such as NIST and CIS.

  • Experience leading technical delivery and mentoring others.

  • Proactive strategic leadership, demonstrable skills in the design, communication and delivery of end user technologies.

  • Ability to engage and communicate at all levels from technical SMEs to Executive Management

  • Experience working in partnership with a Tier 1 Systems Integrator, in a blended model.

  • Ability to quickly learn, implement and utilize new technologies.

Technical Skills

The candidate is expected to have a proven track record in the use of the technologies below, preferably in a Financial Services organisation

  • M365 administration Teams (inc Phone & Global Telephony), SharePoint Online, Purview, Exchange Online (Hybrid).

  • Experience working with EntraID; Conditional Access, SSO and Enterprise Applications

  • Solid understanding of Identity Governance & Administration within the context of a highly regulated environment.

  • Azure Virtual Desktop Administration (inc Azure Networking)

  • Experiencing working with Endpoint Configuration/Management & Application Delivery technologies such as Intune & MEM.

  • Experience implementing IaC/DSC via Terraform to manage M365 & EntraID.

  • Azure Virtual Desktop (inc Networking)

  • Defender for Endpoint experience with vulnerability management, EDR, ASR, Exposure Management & creating action plans to improve security posture.
