- Our Investments business – A specialist asset manager that focuses on areas where we have both strength and scale to capitalise on the key themes shaping the market, through either public markets or alternative asset classes.
About the Department
The Cloud Capability function operates under our Corporate CTO, playing a strategic role in enabling and accelerating cloud adoption across Aberdeen. We work in close partnership with business verticals and corporate functions to deliver fit‑for‑purpose cloud platforms, practices, and processes that support modernisation while ensuring our environments remain resilient, secure, and efficient.
The function is made up of Cloud Infrastructure Architecture, Cloud Platform Engineering, Development Enablement and FinOps teams. Together we drive the modernisation of our technology environments, reducing friction to cloud adoption, embedding automated governance, and empowering teams to build and operate in the cloud with confidence and agility.
About the Role
As a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Architect, you will play a critical role in delivering our enterprise cloud strategy and supporting the modernisation of our technology environments, with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure. Reporting to the Lead Cloud Infrastructure Architect, you will collaborate closely with other architects, platform engineers, and business stakeholders to design, implement, and optimise cloud infrastructure solutions.
You will contribute technical expertise across networking, compute, storage, identity, and observability, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, and aligned with architectural standards. This role is ideal for someone with deep hands‑on experience in cloud infrastructure who is looking to further develop their skills and contribute to major transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement cloud infrastructure solutions on Microsoft Azure, supporting business and technical requirements.
- Work with the Lead Cloud Infrastructure Architect and other team members to deliver on the cloud roadmap and modernisation activities.
- Apply architectural standards, patterns, and best practices across well‑architected pillars (security, reliability, performance, cost, operations).
- Support the implementation of automated governance guardrails in collaboration with security, platform engineering, and operations teams.
- Contribute to the adoption of cloud‑native architectures, automation, DevSecOps practices, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Participate in technical design sessions, architecture reviews, and proof‑of‑concept initiatives.
- Produce high‑quality technical documentation and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.
- Stay up to date with emerging cloud technologies and best practices, and support the development of junior team members as appropriate.
About the Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Strong knowledge of Azure and associated services.
- Solid understanding of networking, identity management, security, and compliance in Azure.
- Experience modernising core infrastructure services into cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with the well‑architected framework.
- Experience with containerisation (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker), serverless architectures, and microservices.
- Good communication and collaboration skills.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
- Knowledge of FinOps and cloud cost management strategies.
- Background in software engineering or infrastructure operations.
