We’re looking for passionate students to join our Board of Trustees as Student Trustees . This is a voluntary, part-time leadership opportunity where you’ll help shape the strategic direction of Aberdeen University Students’ Union (AUSA), ensuring we remain student-focused, financially sound, and legally compliant. You don’t need previous trustee or governance experience just a commitment to student representation, a willingness to learn, and an interest in leadership and organisational decision-making The Board of Trustees is the governing body of AUSA. It ensures that the organisation fulfils its charitable purpose and remains accountable to students, funders, and regulators. Student Trustees play a vital role in bringing the lived experience of the student community into the highest levels of decision-making. What Success Looks Like Confidently contributing to Board discussions and decisions Representing a diverse range of student voices with insight and integrity Demonstrating curiosity, accountability, and good judgement Gaining practical experience in leadership, governance, and charity operations Leaving the role with stronger skills and a better understanding of how organisations work at a strategic level Key Responsibilities Attend and contribute to Board meetings (held 4-6 times a year) Help review and approve strategic plans, annual budgets, and risk management frameworks Ensure decisions reflect the needs and interests of the student body Maintain an understanding of AUSA’s mission, vision, and values Uphold the Union’s legal, financial, and ethical responsibilities as a charity Qualifications & Skills Essential: Current University of Aberdeen student (undergraduate or postgraduate) Strong communication skills (verbal and written) Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully within a team Commitment to AUSA’s values of representation, inclusion, and student empowerment Willingness to learn about charity governance and strategic leadership Desirable: Interest in governance, policy, leadership, or student advocacy Experience representing students or working with diverse communities (e.g. in societies, volunteering, class rep roles) What You’ll Gain Direct experience with charity governance and organisational leadership Opportunities to grow your confidence, critical thinking, and decision-making skills A unique perspective to bring into future careers in any sector A valuable addition to your CV and future reference Networking with professionals, elected student leaders, and fellow trustees Apply by 9am, Friday 26 May 2025 To apply, visit: Job Opportunities Aberdeen University Students’ Union is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
