Creative Change Maker – Inclusion and Relevance

Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent (37 hours)

About Us

Aberdeen Performing Arts is a vibrant creative hub comprising His Majesty’s Theatre, the Music Hall, and The Lemon Tree. We are a vital part of the North-east’s cultural infrastructure and a key player on national and international touring circuits. We present, produce and commission distinctive arts programming, support creative talent, deliver community and education projects, and operate three bustling venues and hospitality spaces.

The Role

This exciting and pivotal role sits within our Creative Engagement Team. As Creative Change Maker, you’ll help us further realise our commitment to equalities, diversity and inclusion, and ensure our creative work and culture reflect the communities we serve now—and those we want to reach in the future.

This is a full-time, permanent position based at His Majesty’s Theatre, working across all our venues and partner locations.

Key ResponsibilitiesConnecting Communities– Develop inclusive, barrier-breaking ways of working with artists, audiences, and communities- Produce and create work for our stages that reflects diverse voices and lived experiences- Deliver outreach projects that engage communities both in our venues and in their own spaces- Collaborate with partners and regional promoters to expand the relevance and impact of our work- Build relationships with young people to help shape future programming- Amplify stories of underrepresented communities- Collect and evaluate data to inform and improve our creative programme- Share best practice with the wider sectorShaping Our OrganisationLead cross-departmental change around inclusion and relevance- Support the implementation of our Open House Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy- Champion a safe, accessible, and welcoming workplace for all- Develop staff training and capacity in inclusive practices- Foster a culture where diversity is celebrated and underrepresented voices are valued- Ensure audience engagement and talent development programmes reflect our communitiesGeneral DutiesContribute positively to team culture, modelling APA’s mission and values- Attend meetings, events, and contribute to funder reports and evaluation- Comply with health & safety, equal opportunities, and customer care standards- Perform other relevant duties as requiredAbout You

We Are Looking For a Creative, Confident Collaborator With

  • A deep commitment to inclusion, diversity, and cultural relevance
  • Experience as a creative producer or project collaborator in the arts
  • A strong understanding of inclusive practice and community engagement
  • Skills in planning, budgeting, evaluating and delivering artistic projects
  • Emotional intelligence, problem-solving skills, and a hands-on approach to change
  • Confidence influencing at all levels and working independently or in a team
  • High attention to detail, good organisational skills, and IT proficiency
  • Lived experience of marginalisation or exclusion is highly welcomed
