Aberdeen Hindu Temple Trust, a registered charity, was incorporated in 2014 as an interface organisation for various Hindu organisations in Aberdeen. The primary purpose of this trust is to serve the spiritual needs of the Hindu religious people in Aberdeen. The Trust operates the Aberdeen Hindu Temple located at Bankhead Road, Bucksburn, Aberdeen, AB21 9HQ and promotes religious, spiritual, cultural, educational, social, and humanitarian needs for the benefits of its members and community.
The Temple now requires a Hindu Priest / Religious Worker who comes from a Traditional Indian Priestly order, must have undergone formal training under a reputable and Government approved Saiva/Vaishnava Hindu Organisation with qualifications such as Saiva Agama pravara course/ Vaikanasam. Applicants must have extensive (at least 10 years) proven experience, must be a strict vegetarian, and have a Hindu religion satisfying the religious requirements of the role. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK or be eligible for sponsorship under the relevant UK visa route.
The Trust is committed to Fair Work First principles, including payment of at least the Real Living Wage and fair working practices.

- Employment Terms: Full-time / Temporary
- Hours of Work: 33 hours per week (split hours). Flexible working from Monday to Sunday.
Education, Experience and Language Requirements:
- A minimum of ten years previous experience as a Priest.
- Certification and training in Vedic and Agama from a Hindu religious organization is essential.
- Trained in offering Kerala Tantrik religious services.
- Shall be trained and skilled in the rites and practices set out in the Kamika and Karana Agamas as observed in the Saivite Hindu tradition.
- Expert in chanting Vedas and Upanishads.
- Skillful in alankaram, making garlands and decoration of deities during temple functions and major festivals.
- Trained in performing Vaidika Karyakramas including various samskaras and ceremonies.
- Additional qualifications including Samaya Vishesha Deeksha are preferred.
- General communication skills are required for the congregation.
- Prior experience of working in the United Kingdom, preferably Scotland is desirable.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct Hindu Temple rituals such as Abishekam, Homam, Alangaram to all deities, officiating weddings and special prayers for family events.
- Recite Vedic mantras and slogans.
- Conduct religious ceremonies reflective of all auspicious days as per the Hindu calendar.
- Recite Hindu religious songs and Bajan during the poojas.
- Perform Hindu pooja and prayers regularly in and out of the premises.
- Teach the meanings of Hindu religion to the devotees and motivate them to participate regularly in temple activities.
- Proven experience in making flower garlands, decorating the deities, and preparing holy foods for ritual offerings.
- Maintain the sanctum and manage the cleanliness of the temple.
- Report/liaise with the temple administrator or other designated representatives.
- Offer counselling and welfare support to the faith members.
- Provide religious education and discourse for children and adults.
- Assist the congregation in achieving their spiritual goals and perform religious prayers and ceremonies according to the Hindu Vedic way of life.
- Provide documentation demonstrating eligibility to work in the UK.
- Adhere to temple rules, processes, procedures, and policies.
- Work independently and guide assistant priest(s)/volunteers as required.
- Be of exemplary character befitting the position of the priest in a Hindu temple and should be vegetarian and abstain from alcohol, tobacco or other recreational substances.
