At Aberdeen, our ambition is to be the UK’s leading Wealth & Investments group. Strengthening talent and culture is one of our strategic priorities. We strive to make Aberdeen a great place to work so that we can attract and retain the industry’s best talent. Our people put our stakeholders at the heart of everything they do by helping us to make a positive difference to the lives of our clients, customers, colleagues, shareholders, and society. We are focused on growing our direct and advised wealth platforms and repositioning our specialist asset management business to meet client demand. We are committed to providing excellent client service, supported by leading technology and talent.
Aberdeen comprises three businesses, interactive investor (ii), Investments, and Adviser, each of which focuses on meeting and adapting to our clients’ evolving needs:
- interactive investor, the UK’s second largest direct-to-consumer investment platform, enables individuals in the UK to plan, save, and invest in the way that works for them.
- Our Adviser business provides financial planning solutions and technology for UK financial advisers, enabling them to create value for their customers.
- Our Investments business is a specialist asset manager that focuses on areas where we have both strength and scale to capitalise on the key themes shaping the market, through either public markets or alternative asset classes.
About the Role
We’re looking for a senior designer who operates confidently across the full design process — from early discovery through to delivery — and brings deep expertise in service design, strategy, and shaping problems that teams are working on. You’ll be embedded in a cross-functional team working on products and services for Financial Advice firms, reporting directly to the Head of Product Design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead discovery: plan and conduct regular customer and adviser interviews, synthesise findings into clear opportunity spaces, and ensure research is shaping decisions — not just validating them.
- Map and analyse end-to-end service journeys across digital, operational, and human touchpoints to identify gaps and strategic opportunities.
- Work across the full-service layer — not just digital products — collaborating with Operations, Sales, and Marketing as well as Product and Technology teams.
- Contribute to proposition design, helping frame how new products and services are structured and prioritised.
- Act as a strategic partner to senior stakeholders, connecting design thinking to business outcomes.
- Help embed customer understanding beyond the design team — through workshops, shared research, and building habits of evidence-based decision-making.
- Bring strong craft to design delivery — producing interaction design and high-fidelity UI that sets the bar for the team, while also working comfortably at the service and systems level when the work demands it.
About the Candidate:
- A portfolio that demonstrates impact across discovery and service design as well as UI.
- Strong research practice: interviewing, synthesis, jobs-to-be-done, and continuous discovery methods.
- Able to think systemically about how people experience an organisation across all touchpoints, not just a screen.
- Experienced working in or alongside complex organisations — ideally in financial services or regulated industries — where design must navigate ambiguity and organisational nuance.
- A strong communicator who can frame design in terms of what the business receives, and engage as a peer with senior stakeholders.
- Proficient in Figma; comfortable contributing to and working within a design system.
- Generous with knowledge — able to develop the people around them and raise the baseline of the teams they work with.
