About the Department Finance Operations is a core part of Aberdeen’s Finance function, delivering services across Record to Report, Billing, Banking, Accounts Payable and Supplier Relationship Management.
Within Group Financial Control, the team provides accurate financial outputs, strong controls and valuable insight, working with colleagues in Edinburgh and an outsourced partner in Chennai.
Billing supports revenue recognition, regulatory compliance and the integrity of Accounts Receivable balances, helping enable our clients to be better investors.
About the Role
This Billing Lead role is a high-impact leadership opportunity within Finance Operations in Edinburgh.
You will oversee invoicing, collections, the Billing Helpdesk, controls, risk management and continuous improvement.
Leading seven Edinburgh-based direct reports and an offshore billing team of around 20 colleagues, you will build capability and ensure accurate, timely and compliant outcomes.
You will own aged debt, cash collection, data integrity and balance sheet substantiation, while representing Billing at risk, audit and governance forums.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead Billing Operations across invoicing, collections and helpdesk activity, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant outcomes.
- Oversee complex fee calculations, including management fees, recharges, investment management agreement fees, performance fees and rebates.
- Own aged debt and cash collection performance, reducing overdue balances and improving cash flow.
- Lead the Billing control environment, ensuring regulatory compliance, risk management, audit readiness, data integrity and robust balance sheet substantiation.
- Drive the Billing change agenda through process improvement, automation, standardisation and technology-enabled efficiency.
Essential requirements
- Extensive experience in Finance Operations Billing within a complex and regulated environment.
- Strong people leadership experience across billing, collections and client-facing support functions, including leading multi-layered onshore and offshore teams.
- Deep understanding of billing processes, complex fee structures, Accounts Receivable and collections.
- Strong understanding of financial controls, risk management and regulatory requirements.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence at senior levels.
- Ability to operate strategically while maintaining oversight of operational delivery and team performance.
- Preferred and desirable experience
- Preferred: proven experience managing aged debt and improving cash collection performance.
- Preferred: experience ensuring robust balance sheet substantiation and audit readiness.
