Job purpose/about the role:

The Principal Scientist is responsible for the overall management of the chemistry section within the Aberdeen Scientific Services Laboratory, as well as acting as the Deputy Quality Manager.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

  • Honours degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry and/or Chartered Chemist & Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
  • Full current UK driving licence.

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

  • Experience of operating a fully documented and accredited quality system.
  • Ability to develop and document methods of analysis and operational procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with customers, court officials and other scientists.
  • Ability to manage conflicting demands in order to meet deadlines.
  • Experience of leading a team of qualified staff including training staff.
  • Ability to ensure that operational procedures are implemented throughout a work section.
  • Ability to use a range of computer packages including Microsoft Office.
