Location: Airyhall Library, Aberdeen.

Duration: Permanent, Part Time.

Job Purpose: The Library Assistant will work as part of the library network team to deliver high quality, customer focused library and learning services across Aberdeen. The successful candidate will cover a two‑week rota at Airyhall Library, with additional coverage at other city libraries as required.

Working hours:

  • Week 1 – 20.5 hrs:
  • Wednesday 09:45‑13:00 and 13:45‑17:30
  • Thursday 09:45‑13:30
  • Friday 09:45‑13:00 and 13:45‑17:00
  • Saturday 09:45‑13:00
  • Week 2 – 20 hrs:
    • Wednesday 09:45‑13:00 and 13:45‑17:30
    • Thursday 09:45‑13:00 and 13:45‑17:00
    • Friday 09:45‑13:00 and 13:45‑17:00

    PVG membership is required for positions with a full‑time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. The Council will cover the initial cost of £18 for existing members or £59 for non‑members, deducted from the first full month’s salary.

    Required Qualifications:

    • At least 4 National 5 passes at Grade A‑C, including English and a Mathematics subject or equivalent.
    • PVG Membership for regulated work with children and/or protected adults or willingness to obtain before a formal offer.

    Candidate Profile:

    • Physical stamina to move books and other resources.
    • Cash handling skills.
    • Presentation, promotion skills and ability to deliver outreach activities to a range of clients.
    • Proactive assistance and support for service users.
    • Use of new technologies.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
