Who are we? Abel & Cole has pioneered organic, ethical and sustainable food delivery for over 30 years. Doing things better is our bread and butter; from saving over 60 million plastic bags by using reusable boxes for our food deliveries, to finding alternatives to plastic long before it hit the headlines. We are forever challenging ourselves to find the most positive way to do business and want everyone to eat organic because it’s one way to save the future. It’s these values that enabled us to become B Corp certified; an optional audit we’ve gone through to recognise how we put people and planet before profit, as well as help us find room for further improvement. We’re looking for more people to join our team of almost 600, to share our passion for doing the right thing even bigger and better than we do already. In a fast paced and competitive market, we know it’s our people who make the difference. We’ve learnt how important it is to recognise, develop and promote from within; and that trusting people lets them come up with the best ideas and that helps our entrepreneurial spirit to thrive.

Role Summary: We’re looking for a hard-working, super-efficient and enthusiastic person to join our studio creatives at Abel & Cole. This role will be a part of the Brand & Creative Team, within the Marketing department, reporting to Photographer & Studio Manager. You will assist the Photographer & Studio Manager and Videographer on their shoots by running the studio smoothly, as well as producing some of our weekly photography. Every day in the studio is different. So, we’re looking for a super organised, multi-tasker who is ready to take the initiative, and who’s not afraid to get their hands dirty (especially when it comes to the washing up). You’ll be able to collaborate not just with your Studio Team colleagues, but with departments across Abel & Cole. This role would suit an aspiring photographer with early career food photography experience, as you will be mentored by both our Photographer and Videographer on the job, with opportunities to develop your creative skills. We provide a fun, and collaborative working environment – this is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a dynamic team who are at the heart of Abel & Cole’s business. This role is part-time, Monday-Thursday, and is based in our Mitcham studio.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the packshot process in the Studio – photographing, editing and cropping images to deadlines, maintaining a consistent look.
  • Assisting with photo- and videoshoots, from basic food prep and cooking to helping create sets, set up lights, or record sound for videos.
  • Assisting with photo- and videoshoots on supplier visits, which can be long days or overnight stays.
  • Saving photos and keeping the photo library organised and clearly labelled.
  • Prop management, including sourcing props as per briefs, ensuring our prop cupboard is well maintained and easy to use, and assisting the studio creatives with finding the right props to bring their vision to life.
  • Managing product samples that come in to the studio for packshots and campaign photoshoots, including logging and storing samples and liaising with Buying and Trading teams.
  • Managing products and ingredients in studio, including ordering ingredients for photoshoots as per briefs, and shopping for missing/hard to get hold of ingredients, as needed. Keeping the studio stocked with basics, such as olive oil, salt, pepper, sugar and flour. Tracking ingredients and samples in the studio and ensuring we are not doubling up on products to manage costs.
  • Helping to keep the studio clean and tidy, which will include helping with washing up at photoshoots, assisting the Photographer and Videographer with cleaning the studio down at the end of the day, managing the rubbish and recycling, ensuring packaging doesn’t build up in the Studio, regularly cleaning the fridges and defrosting the freezers, organising the laundry delivery service, ensuring we are well stocked with clean tea towels, cleaning cloths and cleaning materials.
  • Act as an ambassador for our B Corp values: make all decisions with our social and environmental impact in mind and look for opportunities, no matter how small, to use our business as a force for good.

Required Skills:

  • Early career experience in food photography with the ambition to develop professional photography skills.
  • Experience handling professional camera and lighting equipment.
  • Great visual eye and enthusiasm for creative work.
  • Comfortable with Adobe suite for image editing and cropping.
  • Highly motivated, well-organised and energetic.
  • A consummate collaborator who also has the confidence to work independently and take the initiative.
  • Team player, happy to muck in as a part of a bustling, fast-paced team.
  • Flexible and agile, able to react to last-minute changes in priorities.
  • Details-orientated and able to keep track of multiple tasks.
  • Keen to learn and willing to assist.
  • Driver’s licence, as you will often need to nip out for props, ingredients or to visit our brilliant farmers for shoots.

What we offer:

  • Salary up to £29,000 per annum (FTE)
  • 33 days holiday, inclusive of bank holidays (FTE)
  • A free box of fruit and veg every week (it’s pretty delicious!)
  • Up to 35% discount on A&C products
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Contributory pension scheme
