Abel & Cole has pioneered organic, ethical and sustainable food delivery for over 30 years. We are looking for a talented FP&A Analyst to join our team. This is a key business partnering role and an exciting opportunity to work closely with our Operations and Commercial teams providing insight and analysis to support business decisions in line with our ambitious strategic plans.

You will be essential to supporting key business projects, driving operational efficiencies, reporting on KPIs, automating processes and be a catalyst for change whilst supporting our mission to be the UK’s most Sustainable grocer. You will have experience of both supporting and challenging key stakeholders where necessary and have the flexibility to adapt to fast-changing business demands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business Operations & Financial Analysis
    • Analyse the financial performance of key business areas, maintaining and developing financial models and forecasts to support decision-making in operational and business planning.
    • Drive the creation of data-driven analyses, actionable insights, and scalable systems to support strategic decision-making and operational efficiency.
    • Track and report on key KPIs, such as DC per drop, production costs, inventory management and gross margin performance.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and processes efficiencies.
  • Gross Margin Analysis
    • Analyse and monitor gross margin performance, including tracking variances between actual, budget, and forecasted figures.
    • Work closely with the operations and commercial teams to understand cost drivers and identify opportunities to improve gross margin.
    • Support pricing decisions by providing cost-based margin insights and profitability assessments.
    • Provide regular reports and insights to senior management on gross margin performance and areas for improvement.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting
    • Collect and analyse large sets of data to identify trends and insights.
    • Conduct ad-hoc analysis to support various business initiatives, such as cost modelling for new projects or strategic decisions.
    • Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting tools to provide timely visibility into financial and operational performance.
    • Present analysis and insights to senior management in a clear and actionable format.
    • Ensure data accuracy and consistency across financial and operational systems.
  • Financial Planning & Forecasting
    • Support the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
    • Work with department heads to build accurate financial models and ensure timely updates to the forecast.
    • Provide detailed analysis of budget and forecast variances, highlighting key drivers and suggesting corrective actions where necessary.
  • Cost Optimization
    • Identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve efficiency in key operational areas.
    • Provide ongoing support to the management in evaluating the financial impact of proposed changes.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
    • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the business, including operations and commercial teams.
    • Provide financial insights and analysis to assist with decision-making and strategic planning.
    • Support operational and commercial teams in understanding the financial implications of business decisions.
  • Process Improvement
    • Continuously improve FP&A processes and reporting tools to ensure accurate, timely, and actionable insights.
    • Assist in improving financial models and systems to enhance reporting capabilities.
    • Support the automation of financial processes and reporting to increase efficiency and reduce manual effort.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience
    • Proven experience in financial analysis, preferably in an FP&A role with exposure to gross margin and operations analysis.
    • Experience with budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
    • Experience in developing and maintaining financial models, reports, and dashboards.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data metrics.
    • Experience working with large data sets and financial modelling.
  • Technical Skills
    • Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, vlookups, power queries, financial modelling).
    • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles.
  • Soft Skills
    • Excellent relationship building skills, able to engage and collaborate with a variety of people across the Operations team.
    • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into actionable business insights.
    • High attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to identify root causes and propose actionable solutions.
    • Self-starter and takes initiative.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
    • Demonstrate integrity, dependability, responsibility, accountability.
    • Commercially aware and capable of influencing decisions.

What we offer:

  • This is a permanent position, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Our core working hours are 10:00 – 16:00 with flexibility around your working pattern outside of these times.
  • The role is to be based in Andover, Hampshire, or Wimbledon, South London, with periodic travel to alternative site.
  • Travel expenses will be available to your non-base site depending on your home location and method of travel.
  • 33 days inclusive of bank holidays (FTE).
