We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist to join the newly established Danaher Affinity Reagent Autonomous Laboratory hosted at Abcam in Cambridge. In this role, you will contribute to the development and optimization of autonomous AI‑driven antibody discovery platforms, with particular emphasis on antibody engineering. This lab‑based position reports to the Director of Production for the Danaher Affinity Reagents Autonomous Laboratory and is based in Cambridge, UK.

In This Role, You Will Have The Opportunity To:

  • Design and execute molecular biology and antibody engineering experiments to support antibody discovery and optimization programs
  • Generate and optimise antibody variants based on epitope, sequence, or functional insights
  • Lead troubleshooting and optimisation of expression, formatting, and molecular design challenges
  • Ensure engineered antibodies and workflows are compatible with scalability and autonomous experimentation
  • Collaborate closely with data, discovery, and automation teams to align molecular execution with DARAL priorities

The Essential Requirements Of The Job Include:

  • PhD (or equivalent) in a life sciences discipline, with 5+ years’ experience in antibody discovery, protein science, or related experimental biology
  • Strong hands‑on expertise in antibody engineering and reformatting
  • Proven track record contribution to antibody discovery or engineering projects in academic or industry environments
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex experimental data and troubleshoot scientific challenges
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within cross‑functional teams

Preferred Experience:

  • Bioinformatics / Computational Biology (repertoire analysis pipelines, clustering, reporting)
  • Mammalian expression systems and recombinant protein production
  • Supporting technology development or implementation in a research environment
  • Previous experience with automation or high‑throughput workflows
