ABC Teachers are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Complex Care Teaching Assistant to join the exceptional team at Mary Elliot Academy in Walsall, part of the Thrive Education Partnership.

Mary Elliot Academy is a specialist SEND school that supports young people aged with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), and complex medical needs.

As a Complex Care Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored educational and personal care support to students with additional physical, sensory, and medical needs. Working alongside teachers, therapists, and healthcare professionals, you will play a crucial role in helping each young person access learning and achieve their full potential in a safe, nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students with complex learning, physical, and medical needs throughout the school day.

  • Assist with personal care, feeding, and mobility (training provided).

  • Follow individual care and education plans under the guidance of teaching and healthcare staff.

  • Encourage communication, independence, and engagement through positive interactions.

  • Use specialist resources such as sensory equipment, communication aids, and adaptive technology.

  • Support off-site activities and therapy sessions where required.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience supporting individuals with complex medical, physical, or learning needs (school, care, or health setting).

  • Confidence to follow care and therapy routines safely and effectively.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • A DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

Training in personal care, PEG feeding, or moving and handling is beneficial but not essential full training and CPD will be provided.
