An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clerk to join the busy clerking team. This role is ideally suited to an organised, proactive and motivated individual looking to build a long-term career within barristers' chambers. Working alongside experienced clerks, you will gain valuable exposure to the day-to-day operation of Chambers, receive comprehensive training and support, and develop a strong understanding of the clerking profession in a fast-paced and rewarding environment.

About the role:

Providing administrative and clerking support, assisting with the efficient day-to-day running of Chambers and supporting the management of members' practices. The role offers exposure to a broad range of clerking responsibilities, including diary management, liaising with solicitors and clients, preparing and distributing case papers, supporting fee administration, maintaining accurate records and responding to day-to-day enquiries.

This is a varied role in a busy chambers environment, providing the opportunity to develop a broad understanding of clerking and practice management. Working alongside experienced clerks, you will assist with the smooth running of members' practices while developing your organisational, communication and commercial awareness. The successful candidate will be expected to manage competing priorities, work accurately under pressure and provide a professional and responsive service to members, solicitor clients and members of the public.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Providing day-to-day administrative and clerking support to the Senior Clerk and team.
  • Assisting with the management and maintenance of members' diaries, ensuring appointments and commitments are accurately recorded.
  • Liaising with solicitors, clients and court staff to arrange conferences, hearings and other appointments.
  • Answering telephone calls professionally and responding promptly to email enquiries.
  • Managing incoming and outgoing post, DX and other correspondence.
  • Collating, organising and distributing electronic case papers and other documentation to members.
  • Maintaining accurate records on Chambers' case management system, ensuring information is entered promptly and accurately.
  • Completing a wide range of general administrative duties to support the smooth running of Chambers.
  • Acting as a point of contact for members requiring administrative support throughout the day.
  • Assisting with listing enquiries and ensuring members are kept informed of developments.
  • Assisting with the administration of members' fees, ensuring fee information is accurately recorded, updated.
  • Developing and maintaining professional relationships with solicitor clients and other court users.
  • Assisting with the efficient operation of Chambers by identifying priorities and responding positively to changing demands.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality when handling sensitive information and documentation.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of the importance of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in all aspects of the role.
  • Contributing positively to the continued development and success of Chambers.
