Barrister members provide advocacy and advice both nationally and in other jurisdictions (including USA, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, the Channel Islands, Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangladesh and Israel).
Purpose of the Role: To work alongside the Clerking Team to assist with the administration of the barristers' practices. The role is integral to the efficient and effective functioning of the team. It is a busy and demanding role which requires strong inter-personal skills, organisation and administration skills, and the ability to multi-task and prioritise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fees administration, including fee negotiation, the entering of times, the recording of case related expenses, and the issuing of fee notes.
- Recording diary bookings and booking conference facilities.
- Detailed recording of enquiries/instructions/case descriptions, creating new cases, and issuing of contractual terms.
- Preparation of materials for Practice Development Meetings.
- Arranging the necessary call documents and work permits for overseas Court appearances.
- Generating opportunities for all members by all reasonable and proper means.
- Liaising with the High Court, County Court and other relevant courts or tribunals regarding hearing dates or request of information.
- Monitoring the Clerks' Room inbox for e-mails received when required.
- Undertaking errands as required.
- Any other office-related tasks that may be required by the Clerking Team.
Required Skills: The successful candidate will be able to display (at least) the following experience and key traits:
- 3 – 5 years' experience working in a Barristers' Chambers.
- Ability to develop relationships with people across all levels of seniority effectively and be persuasive at a senior level.
- Organised self-starter with ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to think clearly and find effective solutions to problems.
- Drive, enthusiasm and eager to learn.
- Willingness to meet the demands of the role through extended hours when required.
- Must be adaptable and be able to work well within a diverse team.
- Must have a "can do" attitude and be prepared to be very "hands on".
