AbbVie’s Discovery Biotherapeutics team is seeking a Senior Scientist to design, engineer, and manufacture multispecific biologics, primarily supporting oncology programs. The role requires extensive experience with biologics production platforms, analytical characterization, and a proven record of implementing multispecific engineering and production strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, engineer, and produce multispecific biologics to support oncology initiatives.
- Integrate state‑of‑the‑art technologies to improve therapeutic production platforms and solve technical challenges with creative, “out‑of‑the‑box” thinking.
- Serve as the Multispecifics Engineering representative for cross‑functional teams, providing scientific insights across multiple therapeutic areas and recognised expertise in multispecific design and production.
- Lead biologics coordination on projects, managing activities from hit generation through candidate nomination.
- Identify and solve technical problems independently, conceiving and implementing innovative process research ideas.
- Ensure consistency and quality of technical reports.
- Provide project updates, analyses, and advice to cross‑functional teams and senior management.
- Present original work internally and at external scientific conferences; author or co‑author peer‑reviewed scientific papers or patents.
Qualifications
- PhD, MS, or BS in Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering, or related discipline; 0–5 (PhD), 8–11 (MS), or 10–13 (BS) years of experience, ideally in multispecific biologics engineering.
- Extensive experience with protein, biologics, fragments, and multispecific design, expression, and purification.
- Design experience of multispecifics for ADC preferred.
- Experience with purification and automation instruments (e.g., Akta, Kingfisher, Hamilton).
- Strong scientific understanding of current protein expression, separation, and analytical technologies; ability to develop new purification approaches.
- Experience with CRO coordination and in‑vitro analytical techniques (SEC, MS, DSF); developability screening for multispecifics preferred.
- Strong molecular biology skills (molecular cloning) and sequence analysis tools (Vector NTI, Geneious, Genedata).
- Knowledge of biologic pipeline progression from exploratory through candidate nomination; program management experience preferred.
- Excellent organisational skills, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to rapid change in priorities.
- Goal‑oriented team player with strong verbal and written communication skills; strong can‑do attitude.
- Recognised in the scientific community through a sustained record of peer‑reviewed publications and patents preferred.
