At DJS Antibodies, a part of AbbVie, we create the next generation of antibody therapeutics to improve outcomes for patients with life‑changing immunological diseases and cancers. We seek a Research Associate to join our industrial laboratory research team, conduct experiments, analyse data and support therapeutic antibody discovery and development across DJS projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute energy, enthusiasm and positivity to the company.
  • Maintain cell cultures and perform laboratory experiments using cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISA, fluorescence microscopy, and related assay techniques.
  • Apply quality control to laboratory work, including maintaining safe and clean laboratory environments, re‑ordering consumables, and preserving quality sample archives.
  • Analyze and present data from a variety of sources to the wider team and organization, supporting strategic decision‑making within DJS discovery.
  • Review self‑generated and peer‑generated laboratory data critically and impartially.
  • Keep up to date with developments in the literature related to technical aspects of drug discovery technologies.
  • Manage day‑to‑day laboratory operations as part of the team.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory experimental records.
  • Participate as a key member of the DJS team in all aspects of research.

Qualifications

  • Have or be on track for a BSc (2:1 level) or higher with an intercalated year in industrial/academic research, or an MSc/MRes or higher degree with significant lab experience in a relevant discipline (Biology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Cell Biology, Immunology or Natural Sciences).
  • Enthusiasm for and commitment to drug discovery and drug development research.
  • Recent experience in mammalian cell culture and cell biology techniques such as flow cytometry, ELISA and fluorescence microscopy.
  • Functional antibody screening methods experience.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work independently and as part of a team, efficient work habits, effective relationship building, laboratory method development, and flexible working hours when required.
  • Strong written and oral communication, problem‑solving, and IT skills.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience running biological assays on primary cells and cell lines.
  • Experience with bispecific antibodies.
  • Experience with laboratory automation.
  • Good knowledge of statistics.
