Responsibilities

  • Brand Medical Strategies and Functional Plan: Responsible for all medical strategy activities and documentation for allocated brand/indications/therapeutic area, including medical imperative definition, medical gap identification, and medical functional plan preparation/presentation to Area/Global and National Advisory Board organizations.
  • Cross-functional and affiliate representation: Act as the representative for allocated brand/indications/therapeutic area within INTERCONTINENTAL Organization and within Affiliate, collaborating with Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, CEX, Business Units, Market Access, and related functions.
  • Strategic collaboration and task forces: Be a strategic collaborator and contributor to affiliate Brand Teams, ensuring medical alignment where possible; lead or contribute to urgent tasks such as crisis management, risk management, label changes, patient complaints, and market access initiatives.
  • Evidence Generation and Medical Study Lead: Develop local clinical study/evidence generation plans; identify and prioritize evidence gaps; conduct local research activities (including but not limited to post-marketing observational/interventional studies, post-approval commitment studies, collaborative studies, and investigator-initiated studies) in a compliant manner aligned with priorities at Affiliate/Area/Global level.
  • Medical Study leadership: Serve as local medical study lead for assigned studies through concept formulation, protocol design/approval, statistical planning, implementation, and publication.
  • Medical Content and Scientific Communication: Establish medical knowledge base aligned with strategy; generate materials for field medical education and internal/external communication in an accurate, balanced, timely, and compliant manner.
  • Medical Governance and Compliance: Review and approve promotional/non-promotional materials, regulatory materials, and public affairs materials as needed; establish knowledge management and training for AbbVie products and products in development.
  • Engagements and External Collaboration: Provide medical support and help develop professional, credible relationships with external experts and academic organizations; identify qualified external candidates for collaborative efforts such as Collaborative Studies and Investigator Initiated Studies, ensuring scientific integrity.

Qualifications

  • Medical Degree with strong clinical background; candidates from a scientific background with relevant experience may be considered in exceptional circumstances.
  • Previous medical affairs pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry experience preferred.
  • Core competencies: high integrity, strong work ethic, compliance; budget planning and management; collaborative, team-oriented approach; experience contributing to cross-functional teams in matrix organizations; strong communication and presentation skills; ability to work across functions to support medical and clinical activities.
