The International RWE Lead will serve as the primary interface for the international real-world evidence (RWE) community, linking area and affiliate stakeholders to the Medical Affairs + Health Impact (MHI) RWE Center of Excellence (CoE), and cross-functional research functions including but not limited to International Market Access and Pricing (IMAP), Epidemiology (EPI), Data Science & Statistics (DSS) and R&D Data Convergence. This role will enable the generation of fit-for-purpose RWE via use of optimal RWD and methodologies across international affiliates and act as a crucial nexus across AbbVie's RWE capabilities. A key responsibility will be developing appropriate forums and ways of working across the International community and cross-functional research functions for enhancing strategic RWE planning and generation, while actively participating in Area Evidence Teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the RWE subject matter expert within the assigned region and/or therapeutic areas, championing the understanding and use of primary and secondary RWD and supporting affiliates/areas in the translation of evidence gaps to robust and tangible study design through methodological input.
  • Work with the Value and Evidence RWE pillars and cross-functional research functions to coordinate optimal expertise based on specific International Area & Affiliate research needs.
  • Contribute to building Global-International and affiliate-area RWE networks, highlighting available expertise & resources and delivering RWD/E input and training.
  • Co-lead the Asset RWE Community in partnership with International Medical and Market Access including defining the specific needs, format and membership for each asset.
  • Where necessary, support evidence planning to focus on optimal real world study design to meet strategic cross-functional needs.
  • In collaboration with Global RWE Innovative Real-World Data and Policy, stay current with evolving RWE guidelines, innovations, emerging trends and best practices.
  • Represent AbbVie on relevant external consortia and partner with local stakeholders to drive innovative use of RWD.
  • Serve as a member of the Area Review Committee (ARC), Area Evidence Teams and priority Local Evidence Teams, as needed, providing input into International evidence plans.
  • Engage with external vendors/data owners to identify opportunities for smart evidence generation and represent AbbVie at external and internal International RWE meetings, as needed.
  • Support evolution of International knowledge and use of RWD sources, in partnership with the V&E RWE CoE’s and cross-functional research functions.
  • Represent International RWE in internal RWD/E and evidence generation workstreams, as needed.
  • Actively engage with the broader International and US RWE lead community to share ideas, learnings and best practices to evolve RWE customer excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Advanced degree in public health, health economics, outcomes research, epidemiology, biostats, or another relevant field.
  • RWE experience: Minimum of 8-10 years hands-on experience in international RWE, outcomes research, etc. within the pharmaceutical, academia, or consultancy sectors to support market access, medical and commercial evidence needs.
  • Demonstrated experience with study/protocol design to meet strategic needs using a range of RWD sources.
  • Deep understanding of OUS RWD/E landscape in at least 1 region (Europe, JAPAC, Canada, LATAM).
  • Analytics experience desirable but not essential.
  • Integrated evidence planning experience: Understands pharma asset strategy and has demonstrated experience in area or global integrated evidence planning and subsequent planning of RWE studies/initiatives.
  • Influencing/consultancy expertise: Strong influencing without authority skills. Demonstrated experience at coaching study teams or decision makers (expert and non-expert) through RWE study design decisions drawing upon scientific, strategic and practical needs.
  • Working style: Individual must have demonstrated ability to work successfully in a cross-matrix setting. Skilled in consultant, team member and team lead working styles and able to flex working style to meet the specific project needs.
  • Communication: Fluent at conveying complex information and context to expert and non-expert audiences in a clear and relevant manner. Compelling, adaptable communicator to small and large audiences across functions and levels of seniority.
  • Project management: Ability to develop plans and self-manage timelines, resources, and deliverables effectively.
  • Comfortable with the unknown: Must be comfortable to perform in previously uncharted territory with few, if any, established use cases, guidelines or processes. Flexibility to adjust based on changing circumstances and openness to new ideas and continuous learning.
  • Therapeutic Area experience: oncology (heme, solid tumors), immunology or neurology indications strongly desired.
  • Language: Must be fluent in English. Additional languages in relevant geographical region are desirable but not essential.
