About Abbott Diabetes Care: World Leader in Glucose Monitoring, Abbott Diabetes Care designs, develops, and manufactures glucose monitoring systems for use in both home and hospital settings. We have a Centre of Excellence in Witney for the development and manufacture of electrodes and biosensors used by patients and healthcare professionals for the day-to-day management of diabetes. The site has been instrumental in the research, development, and manufacture of the FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System as well as exciting developments in the Libre family including FreeStyle Libre 2, FreeStyle Libre 3, and the Libre Sense system. The Role: We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Scientist 1 to join our materials team within R&D. Joining a small team, your main responsibility will be characterisation of materials for new sensor technologies. By leading workstreams within the development of our newest products, you will help translate proven technology into commercial products and will support the continued development of our sensor technology. The role will require technical collaboration across functions including Engineering, Regulatory, Commercial, Quality, Clinical Affairs & Research & Development organizations worldwide. Main Responsibilities:

  • Perform testing to protocol or procedure whilst adhering to good laboratory practice.
  • Develop protocols to accomplish goals.
  • Produce prototype product or communicate prototype requirements to support experiments.
  • Utilize analytical instruments and train others in their operation.
  • Participate in experimental design discussions, identify variables that may impact experimental results.
  • Analyze data, evaluate results, and form conclusions.
  • Prepare effective summaries of results and communicate these to the wider team.
  • Compile and maintain records as required by good laboratory practice.
  • Write clear and technically correct reports with feedback from colleagues.
  • Liaise with other departments and present technical information in team meetings.
  • Have awareness of design control procedures applicable to the role.
  • Responsible for own laboratory notebook and for the accuracy, quality, and timeliness of experimental results.
  • Ensure that all work complies with the ADC quality system.
  • Use scientific and industry literature to broaden technical and theoretical understanding.
  • Purchase equipment as required and within budget.
  • Highlight improvement opportunities to the manager.
  • Know and apply knowledge of health and safety procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Degree in a technical or scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Experience: Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Good working knowledge of software packages such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to analyze data, present results, and write reports.
  • Experience of working in a laboratory, scientific, or technical environment.
