The Opportunity
As a result of strong business growth, industry-leading product development in the biosensor business and a long-term commitment to high volume manufacturing in Witney, we have an exciting opportunity for a Production Engineer to join our Operations Engineering Group, focusing on the innovation of equipment to meet the needs of an evolving product portfolio, working with R&D on new processes, products and engineering solutions to maintain equipment effectiveness. This role will see you develop and lead on strategies in relation to bespoke engineering solutions to support the on-going and evolving manufacturing requirements.
The Production Engineer is responsible for the delivery of significant new processes, product, equipment, and technologies to the business. In this role you will:
- Propose and investigate new and innovative manufacturing processes for consideration in future sensor and process projects.
- Leverage market and technological insight to develop ideas, proposals, and strategies to support continuous development in the fast-evolving biosensor space.
- Provide technical expertise in the development and improvement of complex manufacturing equipment and systems.
- Provide technical support and guidance to production teams.
- Work closely with project leads across Operations and R&D to ensure that suitable infrastructure, resource, and equipment is available to business-critical projects.
- Manage strategic relationships both internally and externally (including equipment suppliers), delivering business critical engineering projects.
About You
To be successful, you will ideally be degree qualified in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, however a proven track record and experience in a Production Engineering environment is acceptable. You will also need to be able to demonstrate a track record of leading projects and/or a team of skilled engineers, having a future focused long-term vision and most importantly a history and enthusiasm of idea generation and application of new or existing technologies.

About our Diabetes Care Division
World Leader in Glucose Monitoring, Abbott’s Diabetes Care business designs, develops and manufactures glucose monitoring systems for use in both home and hospital settings. We have a Centre of Excellence in Witney for the development and manufacture of electrodes and biosensors used by patients and healthcare professionals for the day-to-day management of diabetes. The Witney site has been instrumental in the research, development and manufacture of the FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System as well as exciting developments in the Libre family including FreeStyle Libre 2, FreeStyle Libre 3 and the Libre Sense system. The FreeStyle Libre systems are now used by over 5 million people around the world. We are passionate about doing work that improves the quality of people’s lives.
