The Opportunity
Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is part of Abbott’s Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry‑leading technologies to support diagnostic testing which provides important information for treatment and management of diseases and other conditions. As an Occupational Health Advisor (OHA), you will be based in our medical centre in the Southampton area with occasional days on customer sites, depending on the business needs.
As an OHA you will be responsible for the delivery of a full range of Occupational Health duties including case management, safety critical medicals, train driver medical assessments, health surveillance (including HAVS), and wellbeing services.
What You’ll Do
- You will support the growth of a dynamic occupational health business, ensuring you deliver exceptional clinical performance while taking an active role in the mentoring of other health professionals.
- Work in conjunction with our customers, either at a medical centre, customer site, or remotely to provide support, advice and guidance to managers and employees in relation to sickness absence, workplace environment, health surveillance, stress management and return to work following absence.
- Conduct health surveillance/medical assessments, including Undertaking of Network Rail and safety critical medicals.
- Provide advice to managers and HR regarding staff who are considered incapable of undertaking their normal duties within the guidelines of the customer’s policy.
- Provide advice and support to managers and supervisors undertaking risk assessments relating to health matters affecting their staff.
- Ensure that knowledge is maintained of up-to-date legislation and best practice relating to all Occupational Health issues.
- Work with head office to increase utilisation of the service in the described area, where client demand dictates.
- Participate in network learning opportunities, undertake updates on clinical improvements and actively complete performance‑related clinical goals.
Required Qualifications
- Degree, Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health (and ideally be on Part 3 of the NMC Register) with evidence of continual professional development.
- Qualification in Hand‑Arm Vibration and experience of collecting samples for drug and alcohol testing using chain‑of‑custody protocols is desirable.
- Ability to carry out medicals/surveillance including audiometry, spirometry, skin assessment, HAVS and safety critical medicals.
- Experience in the rail industry to undertake Train Driver Medicals with additional in‑house training.
- Ability to conduct case management assessments face to face and remotely.
- Ability to work closely and effectively with HR, Health must have business insurance.
- Competent in the use of computers including Microsoft and Excel software.
