Our Toxicology Business is currently recruiting for a Chief Medical Officer (CMO). The role is based in our Abingdon (Oxfordshire) office. As CMO, you will play a pivotal leadership role in our Occupational Health business during a period of significant growth and transformation. You will be responsible for helping to shape the strategic direction of the Company, whilst driving clinical excellence across our multidisciplinary workforce, ensuring our services remain aligned with evolving industry standards, medical regulations, and strategic business objectives.

You will act as the clinical voice of the organisation, guiding innovation, and ensuring our services deliver measurable value to both our customers and their employees. You will also provide your expertise on the development of OH policies and procedures.

Your remit will include strategic oversight of all clinical services, including:

  • Complex case management, including Ill Health Retirement
  • Medical assessments
  • Health surveillance
  • Wellbeing initiatives
  • New clinical services

Your leadership will extend to:

  • Working alongside the UK SLT
  • Conducting clinical reviews
  • Training and competency oversight
  • Professional revalidation
  • Regular clinical audits
  • Providing clinical expertise for tender opportunities

As a customer-centric and commercially astute leader, you will foster strong customer relationships and champion a performance-driven culture. By managing a clinical performance scorecard, you will demonstrate the tangible impact of high-quality, compliant, and effective clinical services.

You will also:

  • Ensure the clinical team is trained and coached to deliver to professional and commercial objectives at all times
  • Support the achievement and maintenance of accreditations including SEQOHS, ISO and RISQS accreditations
  • Oversee the OHP's clinical work
  • Oversee legislative and regulatory compliance, proactively monitoring changes and implementing required updates to maintain service excellence.
  • Any other duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the team and organisation

Required qualifications/Profile

  • GMC registration, and on the GMC's specialist register (Occupational Medicine)
  • Possession of MFOM (Member of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine) or FFOM (Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine)
  • Hand Arm Vibration Tier 4 (desirable)
  • Medical Review Officer experience
  • ORR Registration (strongly desirable)
  • Experience in LUL medicals
  • HSE appointed doctor preferable in:
  • Ionizing Radiations Regulations 2017
  • Control of Lead at Work Regulations 2002
  • Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012
  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002
  • The ability to conduct physician assessments and produce clear and concise reports
  • Current knowledge of Occupational Health (OH) service statutory and recommended practice and protocols
  • Strong clinical background and knowledge
  • Be competent in the use of modern IT software packages
