The Opportunity
Abbott Rapid Diagnostics is part of Abbott’s Diagnostics family of businesses, bringing together exceptional teams of experts and industry leading technologies to support diagnostic testing which provides important information for treatment and management of diseases and other conditions. The position of Laboratory Analyst is within our Rapid Diagnostics laboratory located at Abingdon, Oxfordshire. The Laboratory Analyst will undertake operations within the screening and confirmation departments. The analysis of drugs of abuse in biological samples is conducted by either immunoassay (CEDIA, HEIA and ELISA) or by confirmatory techniques (such as LC/MS/MS), or by a combination of both.
What You’ll Do
Daily tasks:- Train in all screening and confirmation processes, as well as maintain relevant competencies to be able to perform all tasks within these areas.
- Extraction of drugs from oral fluid and hair samples (SPE/LLE) and associated processes such as setting up batches on instruments, checking sequences, storing and disposal of samples.
- Screening of oral fluid samples by CEDIA/HEIA/ELISA and preparation of daily screening quality controls and reagents.
- Preparation of laboratory solutions.
- Setting up of instruments and running system suitability checks (SSTs).
- Daily, weekly and monthly equipment checks and routine maintenance and completion of associated equipment records.
- Maintaining safe and efficient working practices in the laboratory to ensure conformity to all relevant H&S and quality standards (ISO 17025).
- Assist with accessioning of samples to improve flow of samples through the lab and enable the laboratory to hit KPI’s.
- Complete all lab/H&S/Quality assigned training modules and assessments in a timely manner.
- Aide with maintenance of good stock levels within the laboratory.
- Support the development and implementation of new processes and methods.
- Act as a buddy for Trainee Analysts as required.
Required Qualifications
- Science degree or equivalent experience in a laboratory environment.
- Understanding of the panels of drugs analysed and types of extraction methods.
- Detail-oriented, shows accountability.
- Keen interest in understanding principal of processes.
- Able to function well as an individual or as part of a team.
- Work in accordance with the current safety and quality standards.
- Conform with appropriate safety standards under The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
