Abbotswood Primary is seeking a motivated and committed Year 6 Teacher to join our team on a maternity cover basis. This is an exciting opportunity to work with our oldest pupils and support them through a crucial year of their primary education, including preparation for end-of-key-stage assessments and transition to secondary school. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high‑quality teaching in line with the National Curriculum, maintaining high expectations and ensuring pupils are well supported academically and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver and assess engaging lessons for a Year 6 class across the curriculum
- Prepare pupils effectively for statutory assessments (SATs) while promoting a broad and balanced curriculum
- Track, assess and report on pupil progress using school systems
- Create a positive, inclusive and well‑managed classroom environment
- Support pupils’ wellbeing and transition to secondary education
- Work closely with year group colleagues, support staff and school leadership
- Maintain strong communication with parents and carers
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience of teaching in Upper Key Stage 2 (Year 5 or 6 desirable)
- A secure understanding of the Year 6 curriculum and assessment requirements
- High expectations for behaviour, achievement and pupil outcomes
- Strong organisational and classroom management skills
- A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
