An exciting opportunity has arisen for an English Teacher to join our vibrant team, at Abbotsholme School. We seek a truly inspiring and energetic individual with passion for their subject and the desire to share their knowledge with all.Abbotsholme is a co-educational, boarding and day school, for boys and girls aged 2 to 20, set in a large, beautiful estate on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border. Specific responsibilities & duties

To teach throughout the range of the curriculum including GCSE and A Level

Responsibilities & duties as a teacher

Academic

  • To plan and deliver high quality and inspirational lessons.

  • To set regular assignments (homework) for the pupils, in accordance with the school policy.

  • To provide appropriate feedback for pupils on their work, including regular marking and attendance at parents\’ evenings.

  • To maintain appropriate records of pupils\’ progress.

  • To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of work and modify planning and teaching as appropriate.

  • To produce periodic reports and assessment grades for pupils, in line with the school schedule.

  • To maintain an attractive learning environment for the pupils.

  • To contribute to or write schemes of work for teaching groups.

  • To follow relevant school and departmental policies, for example the marking policy.

  • To keep abreast of national educational initiatives, debates and best practice within the subject, through attendance at INSET courses, as appropriate.

  • To fulfil specific departmental duties as detailed on the separate role-specific description (see above).

Pastoral

  • To be aware of the physical and emotional wellbeing of the pupils.

  • To promote and safeguard the welfare of pupils, liaising with other staff as necessary, including the School Health Advisor and Safeguarding Team.

  • To understand and implement all welfare and safeguarding policies, such as health and safety, child protection, safety on educational visits and attendance.

  • To fulfil the role of a tutor.

General

  • To attend weekly staff meetings at times organised by the SLT.

  • To share in the rota of break, lunchtime and evening supervision duties, as applicable.

  • To share in the covering for colleagues on short-term absence.

  • To contribute to the provision of extra-curricular activities, including the annual school \’Hikes\’ and, if needed, participation in a camp, during the summer term.

  • To contribute to the marketing of the school through attending periodic school open days.

  • To undertake any other reasonable requests of the Headmistress.

  • To role model and support the school\’s Behavioural Charter principles of honesty, integrity, humility, courage and respect.
