Night Complex Care Assistant - Spinal Injury

Buntingford, Hertfordshire | £16.00 per hour | 8pm-8am

Could you be the person someone can rely on through the night?

We're looking for calm, experienced and dependable carers to join a dedicated night team supporting a gentleman with a C3 complete spinal cord injury in his own home in Buntingford.

Our client is 47 and sustained his spinal injury following a motocross accident almost three years ago. He lives at home with his wife and their two very large – and very friendly – Great Danes, Thor and Mav.

For our client, having the right person there overnight provides more than care. It provides safety, reassurance and confidence, knowing that someone skilled and dependable is there when needed.

Your role overnight

This is a waking night role where you'll provide responsive, person-centred support throughout the night.

Our client requires support with personal care, catheter care, bowel care and other aspects of his complex care needs. You'll also need to be observant, proactive and confident in recognizing when support is required.

You'll never be expected to undertake specialist care without the right preparation. Full specialist training, competency assessments and ongoing clinical support will be provided by our in-house team.

We want you to feel as confident in your skills as our client feels having you there.

Who are we looking for?

• Experienced within care, with complex care or spinal injury experience desirable
• Calm and confident, particularly when responding to situations overnight
• Reliable - consistency is incredibly important within this package
• Observant and able to recognize changes or concerns
• Emotionally mature, respectful and non-judgemental
• Comfortable working independently while knowing when to escal ... for support
• A clear communicator who can provide an effective handover to the day team
• Comfortable around two very large, friendly dogs
• Happy to work within a property where CCTV operates in the carers' room and externally
• Driver with car is essential due to client's geographical location

Shift pattern

8pm-8am, including alternate weekends.

You'll also have the support of a dedicated Account Manager, our clinical team and wider management team.

You may work independently at night, but you won't be on your own.

Abbots Care operates a 24-hour on-call service, meaning support is available should you need advice, guidance or assistance during your shift. Our senior management team can also be contacted in an emergency.

You'll be trained to understand our client's individual care plan, protocols and emergency procedures, so you'll know exactly what to do and who to contact should a situation arise.

A night role where you really matter

Some night roles can feel like you're simply there to cover a shift.

This isn't one of them.

You'll become a trusted part of a small, consistent team supporting one person in his own home. You'll get to know his routines, understand his needs and play an important role in helping him feel safe and supported throughout the night.
