The predicted salary is between 30000 - 40000 £ per year.

Work a two week rolling rota - 3 shifts week one and 4 shifts week two. The shift will commence at 8 pm and finish at 8:15 am.

General Scope of Post

To assist principally in the management and continuity of care of the residents. To attend to the physical, emotional and social needs of the residents, working on a rota basis laid down and under the direction of the Registered Manager.

Principal Duties

  • Organise and support care assistants, domestic and kitchen teams throughout a shift of work to provide safe and effective resident care.
  • Delegate tasks to people with the skills and abilities to perform them.
  • Assist in the formal supervision of other carers.
  • Administration of medications.
  • Update care plans as and when changes occur, but at least monthly.
  • Respect the individual rights and choices of residents.
  • Respond to the differing cultural values and diversity of residents.
  • Understand responsibilities in relation to health & safety, food hygiene, fire precautions and emergency procedures, infection control and emergency first aid.
  • Ensure the health & safety of the residents.
  • Report any health & safety issues or equipment failures following the correct procedures.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing accurately to colleagues and the registered manager.
  • Carry out mandatory training in accordance with the training and in house policy.
  • Keep your registration and CPD file up to date.
  • Basic wound care under the written guidance of the health care professional.
  • Dispose of waste safely and in accordance with the care home policy.
  • Report any problems or concerns to the registered manager.
  • Identify problems and take action to rectify them.
  • Accept responsibility to perform the tasks competently.
  • Delegate in the best interests of the resident and not simply in an effort to save money or time.
  • Know your boundaries and ask for help.
  • Liaise with multi-disciplinary team in the best interests of the resident.
  • Attend staff meetings, support colleagues, work as part of a team for the benefit and well-being of the home and residents.
  • Answer telephone enquiries and welcome visitors within the home.

Principal Tasks

  • Work alongside registered manager, communicating effectively verbally and in writing, providing a high standard of care.
  • Document accurately and factually in the relevant paperwork.
  • Use diary to record daily.
  • Liaise with company nurse, district nurse teams, GP practices and other multidisciplinary teams.
  • Order, receive, administer drugs as per company policy.
  • Foster good relationships with families and the wider community.
  • Work within current policy and the National Care Standards maintaining the highest standard of care possible through supervision and guidance to all staff.
  • Perform other tasks within the scope of the post as requested by the registered manager.

Person Specification Requirements

  • Team Leader Qualification SVQ3 in Health & Social Care with 2 x PDA Supervisory Units of Management Award or equivalent (or a willingness to work towards).
  • Registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
  • Registered with The Protection of Vulnerable Groups Adults (PVG).
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training.

Specific Skills

  • Demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Maintain documentation and records with legible handwriting.
  • Good communication skills, verbally and written.

General Aptitude

  • A compassionate and empathetic approach to older people.
  • Previously worked with older adults in a Care Setting or Family setting.

Interpersonal skills

  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team and to promote harmonious working relationships by recognising that everyone has a contribution to make.
