Accountable To: Home Manager

Job Purpose: To ensure the efficient running of the home during the time when on duty as the senior. To contribute to maintaining an environment that is reflective of the Care Home's philosophy of care and one that encourages resident involvement in their care. To help and support Deputy Manager in the management of medicine.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Qualifications:

  • Registered nurse with experience in caring for the Service User group.

Hours Of Duty: Flexible shifts as rostered including weekends and bank holidays.

To ensure the assessment of service users' care needs, the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care are undertaken and documented fully. Monitor and review electronic care plan and TMAR system. As required, take charge of the Home in the absence of the person with continuing responsibility. As required, undertake on-call duties. Ensure an appropriate exchange of information between all grades of staff which promotes continuity of service user care. Maintain full and complete nursing/home records. To ensure the safe administration of drugs in accordance with the N.M.C. and Homes policy. Reporting any errors or concerns to the Senior Nurse/person, as necessary. To monitor the use of all resources to promote effective and efficient use appropriate to the needs of the service users. Liaise with relevant parties in order to facilitate service user care and wellbeing. Report any shortfalls in the provision of service user care to the person in charge/management. To ensure care practices are reflective of the requirements of the NMC and that such practices are reviewed and developed. Maintaining personal contact with residents, through one-to-one contact and group activities. Ensure all visiting professionals are recorded. Attend mandatory training and in-house training as required and complete mandatory e-learning. To abide and understand all Abbey Healthcare policies and procedures. Help to ensure the home is compliant with Care Inspectorate (CI) in Scotland and Care Quality Commission (CQC) in England. Help promote and market the home. Abide by NMC code of conduct. Assist in audits as required.

EDUCATION: To assist with the orientation, induction, and ongoing training of staff. Contribute to the continuing development of the home through professional self-development and the promotion of evidence-based practice. Ensure NMC pin number and validation are in date.

COMMUNICATION: Attend meetings and ensure that information is passed on to all the staff. Help maintain good communications with all professionals and others involved with client care and the management of the Home. Ensure professional support to all grades of staff in the Home.

Health and Safety: Be conversant with and ensure all staff are aware of the requirements under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and of their compliance. Advise the Group Operations Director of any area of concern.

Night Duty: This is a wakeful duty unless notified otherwise.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: Level 4 in Health and Social Care or equivalent (or working towards), Health & Safety Certificate.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year working as registered, Experience of supporting other services.
  • General: Ability to work autonomously, Ability to work under pressure, Ability to promote residents' rights.
  • Motivation: Commitment to promoting and developing the highest quality care standards for older people.
  • Knowledge: Health & Safety at Work Act, Care Standards Act, NSF, Knowledge of local and national codes of practice relating to care of older people.
  • Specific Skills: Ability to work with other health/care professionals, Developing employees, Supervision, Able to prioritise.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to lead and motivate employees.
  • Team Skills: Building a team which supports and values individuals and recognises individual strengths and skills.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: Up to £21.31 per hour

Expected hours: 12 – 48 per week
