Company Description
Most accountancy firms spend their time reporting what has already happened, looking backwards. We would rather help clients shape and impact what happens next. We are a modern, proactive and commercially minded team that sits somewhere between Practice and Industry. We do the core accountancy work properly, but we also go further, giving clients ACTUAL proactive support across advisory, tax, systems, growth and better business decisions.
We work with ambitious business owners who want more than a set of accounts once a year. They want clarity. They want support. They want someone to spot things early, look ahead, challenge where needed and actually help them move forward. That is how we like to work too. Our culture is fast-paced, high-energy and focused on improvement. We care about doing things properly, being helpful, being honest and adding value wherever we can. We use tech properly, think commercially and back ourselves to make a real difference to our clients.
We want people that really care about clients, enjoy solving problems, communicate well and have a drive to keep learning. This is a team for people who want to be involved, contribute, take ownership and help build something better and different in our sector.
Role Description
This is not a standard Client Manager role. At Abbeygate, you will be heading up your own pod of clients, taking ownership of the relationships, the workflow, the standard of delivery and the overall client experience. You will be expected to do more than manage deadlines and review compliance work. This role is about adding value, making a difference and helping clients move forward. It means understanding the businesses you work with, spotting issues early, looking ahead, challenging where needed and helping clients make better decisions.
You will lead your own team within the pod, supporting them, developing them and helping raise standards across the board. You will be someone clients trust, someone the team can rely on and someone who contributes properly to the wider direction of the business. This role also has a commercial edge. We want someone who enjoys building relationships, spotting opportunities, winning business and playing a part in Abbeygate’s continued growth. You should want to contribute to the wider SLT conversation, bring ideas to the table and help shape what better looks like for both our clients and our team.
Over time, this role should grow beyond compliance and client management alone. We want someone who is keen to develop towards delivering more FD-level support, giving clients better insight, better reporting, better planning and better commercial input. This is a role for someone who wants real ownership, real involvement and the chance to have a genuine impact.
The Person
This suits someone who wants more than a normal practice role. Someone who wants to add value, make a difference and build something. Someone who is passionate, commercially aware and has a bit of get up and go. Someone who communicates well, enjoys people, likes solving problems and is ready to take ownership. Someone who wants to keep learning, keep developing and keep improving, both for themselves and for the clients they support. Someone who backs themselves (with support behind them), wants to contribute, and is excited by the idea of growing into a bigger role over time. In short, this suits someone who is ready to get stuck in, support and grow their own team and client base, help win work, develop their commercial edge and grow into delivering proper FD-level support.
