The Abbeyfield Society is a national charity helping to alleviate loneliness and isolation in older people by providing companionship in our supported housing accommodation, retirement apartments and care homes.

We are looking for someone to join our team, on a casual basis, covering staff holidays and sickness. Our bank workers play a fundamental part in ensuring our residents have the support and reassurance that Abbeyfield strives to provide.

The Role

With the welfare of our residents at heart, your job will be to ensure that our residents, staff and assets are kept safe, by being vigilant and conducting regular site checks and maintaining security. You will be the first point of contact in the event of an emergency and respond immediately and appropriately to the Warden Alarm calls. Your role may also include providing domestic portage, scheduled cleaning and laundry, waste management, and responding to emergency repairs.

About You

You’ll be customer-focused and passionate about improving the lives of older people. Friendly, sociable and reliable, you’ll have excellent communication skills, and be able to read and write to a good standard. Self-motivated, you’ll be assertive and able to work independently. But you’ll also know that you are just part of a bigger team, and are happy to help out when you see an opportunity.

You should also be able to demonstrate good organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and stay calm under pressure. IT skills are also key to all our front-line roles, as you’ll be using computers. You should also understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality.

Please note this role will require eligibility to work in the UK, two satisfactory employment references and a Standard DBS check, the cost of which will be met by Abbeyfield.
