Responsible to: Cook / Home Manager

Key objectives

  • Kitchen Assistant
    • To ensure a consistently high standard of kitchen cleanliness and food preparation
    • To be aware of the residents dietary requirements and hydration needs
  • Domestic Assistant
    • To ensure that every resident enjoys a clean and well-maintained environment that is presented to the highest standard
    • To ensure, working as part of a team within the home, that all residents needs in relation to domestic and housekeeping services are met
    • To fulfil requirements relating to cleanliness and infection control

Main Tasks:

  • Kitchen duties
    • To manage the cleaning procedures and schedules for the Kitchen
    • To undertake basic food and drink preparation as directed by the Cook.
    • To take heated food trolleys to relevant dining areas
    • To be responsible for the daily use of catering equipment
    • To ensure the correct use of all equipment and products in line with COSHH requirements.
    • To ensure all deliveries received are correctly placed into fridge / freezers or store areas.
    • To keep the kitchen and store areas in a clean and hygienic condition.
    • Ensure all food related activities comply with food safety regulations and the completion of all relevant records in relation to food safety as directed.
  • Cleaning duties
    • To work within the cleaning schedules as determined by the Home Manager.
    • Ensure appropriate products necessary for the control of infection are in place at all times in all appropriate locations
    • To be responsible for the daily use of housekeeping equipment
    • To ensure the correct use of all equipment and products in line with COSHH requirements.
    • To ensure that equipment and store areas are kept in a clean, tidy and hygienic condition.
  • General duties
    • Observe good food hygiene practices at all times
    • Understand and observe all relevant regulations and Abbeyfield & Wesley policies and procedures.
    • To follow appropriate procedures in the event of accidents/ emergencies.

  • To attend staff meetings when appropriate
  • To attend appropriate training and development sessions
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • To carry out any reasonable duties as requested by the Manager.
  • To be aware of and comply with safe working practices

KITCHEN ASSISTANT - Candidate profile

Essential Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate and interact well with people
  • To be able to read and write to a good standard
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate an empathy and understanding of the needs of older people
  • Ability to carry out all aspects of the role to a high standard at all times
  • Food Hygiene certificate or willingness to complete

Desirable Requirements:

  • A relevant qualification NVQ2 or equivalent (or willingness to work towards).
  • Working in services for older people.
