The predicted salary is between 10 - 15 £ per hour.

Based in Palmerston Residential Care Home

Responsible to: The Home Manager & Property Manager

Hours: 25hrs per week

Salary: £12.64 per hour

Key objectives:

  • Ensure that all areas of the property and grounds are well maintained and tidy.
  • Ensure that all day-to-day repairs and maintenance are carried out quickly and efficiently.
  • Working as part of a team within the residential home, that all residents' needs are fully met.

Main Tasks

Maintenance duties

  • To complete maintenance tasks including day to day repairs to the Home and its environment. This will include painting and decoration of residents' rooms and communal areas.
  • To keep the grounds and garden tidy.
  • Complete checks to all specified equipment on a regular basis.
  • To be point of contact for nominated contractors for repairs and servicing as agreed with the Home Manager & Property Manager.
  • To request work orders for repairs and equipment as required.
  • To undertake routine testing within policy and procedure for water, fire checks and relevant health & safety policies.
  • Check all lighting, including residents' rooms, and lighting inside and outside the Home.
  • Replace bulbs and report any electrical faults to the nominated contractors for repairs and servicing.
  • To ensure all relevant documentation is kept up to date and completed for audit purposes and visits from regulatory bodies.

General duties

  • Understand and observe all relevant regulations and Abbeyfield & Wesley policies and procedures.
  • To follow appropriate procedures in the event of accidents/emergencies.

General Requirements:

  • To be flexible about working hours.
  • To attend staff meetings when appropriate and to be available for one-to-one sessions as agreed.
  • To attend appropriate training and development sessions as agreed with the Home Manager & Property Manager.
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • To carry out any reasonable duties as requested by the Home Manager & Property Manager.
  • To be aware of and comply with safe working practices as stipulated by the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Essential Requirements:

  • A. Ability to communicate and interact well with people.
  • B. To be able to complete daily, weekly, monthly and ad hoc paperwork.
  • C. Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • D. Demonstrate an empathy and understanding of the needs of older people.
  • E. Ability to carry out all aspects of the role to a high standard at all times.
  • F. Proven general DIY skills/experience.
  • G. Knowledge of Health and Safety and ability to identify risks.
  • H. Ability to work on own initiative.
  • I. Own transport or willingness to travel.
  • J. Flexible approach to work.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications relating to property maintenance.
