We are seeking a motivated, patient-focused Phlebotomist / Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our friendly team. This is a varied clinical role delivering a high-quality phlebotomy service alongside core HCA duties. The post holder will be supported with training and development to maintain and expand their clinical skills in line with service needs.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake venepuncture in accordance with practice policies, procedures, and current guidelines
  • Ensure accurate labelling, handling, storage, and processing of blood samples
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and timely patient records on the clinical system
  • Provide a professional, caring, and compassionate service to all patients, including those who may be anxious or vulnerable
  • Record routine clinical observations (e.g. blood pressure, height, weight, BMI)
  • Perform ECG recordings
  • Undertake simple wound care and dressings
  • Support new patient health checks and NHS Health Checks
  • Assist clinicians with routine clinical procedures as required

General Responsibilities

  • Adhere to infection prevention and control, health & safety, and safeguarding policies
  • Maintain stock levels, equipment, and cleanliness of clinical areas
  • Work flexibly as part of the multidisciplinary practice team to support service delivery

Job responsibilities

The post holder will deliver a high-quality phlebotomy service and support the clinical team with a range of Healthcare Assistant duties within a GP surgery setting. The role involves providing safe, effective, and compassionate patient care in line with practice policies and procedures. Key responsibilities include undertaking venepuncture, accurately handling and processing blood samples, maintaining clear patient records, and ensuring excellent standards of infection prevention and control. The post holder will also carry out routine clinical observations, ECGs, simple wound care, and support new patient and NHS Health Checks, following appropriate training and competency assessment.

The role requires good communication skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, and a commitment to ongoing learning and development to meet service needs.

Qualifications

  • A good standard of general education to include English and Maths at Grade C / Level 4 or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Evidence of HCA training.

  • Experience undertaking HCA clinical duties.
  • Knowledge of the EMIS clinical system.
  • Relevant Care Certificate or equivalent.
