As a Junior Design Engineer, you will join our team in an entry-level role designed for someone at the start of their engineering career. This position has a strong electrical focus and offers the opportunity to learn how to support the design of electrical systems and controls for commercial and industrial refrigeration applications. Working closely with experienced engineers, project managers, and clients, you will build technical knowledge in areas such as control systems, component selection, schematics, and system integration. - Support the design and development of electrical and control systems for commercial refrigeration applications, with guidance from experienced engineers.
- Assist with the preparation of electrical layouts, wiring schematics, control panel concepts, and component schedules.
- Work with colleagues across ADA and Lowe Rental to understand customer requirements and project objectives.
- Support the selection of electrical components such as sensors, controllers, relays, cabling, and associated control devices.
- Help with technical analysis and feasibility assessments to support safe, efficient, and practical design solutions.
- Carry out calculations and checks related to electrical loads, control requirements, and system performance while developing your technical understanding.
- Assist with communication and coordination between internal teams, clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders involved in projects.
- Maintain clear and accurate project documentation, including design notes, schedules, reports, and supporting records.
- Keep up to date with developments in electrical design, controls technology, and industry best practice through training and team knowledge-sharing.
- Attend site visits and surveys across the UK and, where required, support audits of installations and commissioning activities.
A degree, Higher National Certificate, Higher National Diploma, or similar qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related engineering discipline is required. Interest in electrical engineering, control systems, and integrated building services is essential. Understanding of core electrical engineering principles such as circuits, power distribution, controls, or instrumentation through study or project work is necessary. Competence in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is expected. You should be able to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining attention to detail and high-quality standards. A willingness to learn, adapt, and pursue ongoing professional development is important. A full UK driving licence or willingness to obtain one within an agreed timeframe is also required.
We will also consider candidates with alternative qualifications or relevant project experience who can demonstrate strong analytical skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. Exposure to CAD or electrical design software, such as AutoCAD, through study, placements, or project work would be beneficial.
This is a permanent full-time role, primarily based at our Cheltenham office, from Monday to Friday, with regular on-site visits to client’s premises and construction sites.
