ROLE OVERVIEW:
This is an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Risk, Safety and Compliance Director to join the senior leadership team.
As the Risk, Safety and Compliance Director, you will be responsible for all aspects of operational risk, including health and safety, brand reputation, and business compliance, both here in London and as the company expands internationally. You will assume overall accountability for maintaining our risk register and identify and develop risk mitigation strategies, setting and managing relevant performance targets. You will cultivate a strong safety culture and ensure compliance is – at a minimum – within current legislation, reporting regularly to relevant Boards and Management, and supporting the business to progress risk and compliance management to ensure we are operating at a best practice level in all areas.
The role will provide support, guidance and oversight on critical risk and compliance topics, which will anchor how ABBA Voyage employees (including its contractors) support each other, their visitors, and the business with policies, processes, and systems.
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop company strategy for managing risk and compliance and an audit programme that includes third party contractors and partners on a local and international scale.
- Build, engage and establish a health and safety culture right across the organisation.
- Develop and manage a health and safety management system and programme that is up to date with current and future legislation and best practices.
- Review and advise on all current codes of practice and documentation appertaining to the company’s business activities.
- Collaborate and partner with our senior arena (in particular our Technical Director, Deputy General Manager and Head of Visitor Operations) and central office teams, providing them with strategic direction and expert support.
- Fulfil the function of the competent person under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
- Develop and maintain enforcement relationships and appoint and manage consultants and ‘critical friends’ where appropriate.
- Plan and prepare the business for new or updated legislation, e.g. the Draft Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill.
- Undertake any necessary investigations into safety concerns raised (internally and externally) and claims.
- Prepare and maintain appropriate Risk and Compliance budgets.
- Ensure relevant up to date training is in place and being effectively implemented and reported on.
- Provide advice, support documentation, manuals etc, to the board, and senior teams and arena management, to enable them to meet current legislation requirements and to ensure that company procedures are being maintained.
- Join and report to the Health and Safety Audit Committee, chaired by a non-executive director, on key metrics and critical risk and compliance related issues, including any relevant developing health and safety risk management issues and any areas of significant non-compliance with current laws.
ABOUT YOU:
- A senior risk, safety and compliance specialist with experience in large scale music and/or entertainment venues of similar complexity.
- Working knowledge of industry guides, including The Purple Guide and the Technical Standards for Places of Entertainment (Yellow Guide).
- Strong understanding of risk management – setting targets and monitoring performance with analytics.
- A knowledge and understanding of relevant process and policies, including those relating to insurance, security and counter terrorism.
- Experience in incident and emergency management as well as post-incident investigation.
- A high-energy, confident team player who can easily collaborate cross-functionally with the executive management team to ensurea cohesive approachto risk and compliance.
- Excellent negotiation skills: capable of persuading and convincing others if necessary, to achieve desired outputs where required.
- Self-motivated to stay on top of latest developments, horizon scanning and industry best-practice.
- Chartered IOSH or equivalent.
NICE TO HAVE BUT NOT ESSENTIAL
- Experience in international territories including Europe, the US and Australia.
- Fire Safety Level 4 qualification or above
- Chartered member or Member of CIEH
- Knowledge of Food hygiene and safety and licensing legislation
