As a Power Electronics BESS Field Technician – Energy & Carbon, you will be empowered to work across the country at various client sites to conduct assessments, inspections, and complete maintenance on client’s energized assets. You will diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance services on various electrical systems, primarily BESS systems with PV and EV charging station system opportunities.

Your Role and Responsibilities:

  • Lead installation, commissioning, and lifecycle maintenance of integrated microgrid systems across LV/MV networks.
  • Act as on-site SME for power electronics (inverters, converters, transformers, protection/control systems).
  • Drive system integration across PV, BESS, EV charging, and grid interfaces to ensure interoperability.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and safety training to engineers and field technicians.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of product design, commissioning, and service processes.
  • Stay current with grid codes, standards, and emerging technologies in renewables and power electronics.
  • Commission and validate MV/LV infrastructure, including switchgear, relays, and grid interconnections.
  • Perform SAT, performance validation, and ensure compliance with grid standards (e.g., G99).
  • Conduct advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis across electrical and control systems.
  • Configure and optimize BMS, EMS, and SCADA systems; perform firmware updates and system tuning.
  • Execute preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on BESS, PV, EV, and LV/MV equipment.
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety standards, LOTO, permits, and all regulatory and company requirements.

Qualifications for the Role:

  • Electrical Engineering Degree (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ BESS technician experience.
  • Hands-on experience with microgrids, BESS, solar PV, and EV charging systems.
  • Strong knowledge of LV/MV electrical systems, protection schemes, and power electronics.
  • Proven experience in commissioning, troubleshooting, and field service in complex energy environments.
  • Skilled in preventive and corrective maintenance of BESS equipment.
  • Proficient in reading electrical schematics, protection studies, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with SCADA, EMS, BMS, and data acquisition/monitoring systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in mechanical and electrical diagnostics.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and effective in dynamic field environments with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work with clients, vendors, and teams.
  • Solid understanding of renewable energy systems, especially energy storage.
  • NFPA 70E certification preferred; proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows systems.
